yeah, that's what I was trying to say, I left the reducer on just to illustrate where it ends up, the header clears, but fabbing up a pipe to meet the collector shouldn't be too hard, ugly, but managable
It still sounds like something is funky with your steering. My super comps touched my pitman on a full left turn, just touched. Once they got hot and touched, there was a slight dimple and they don't touch anymore. I dunno man, something is out of adjustment or could be someone swapped some parts before you got the car. Tie rod end adjustment can bring the pitman over a good four inches, maybe more, assuming its all out of whack. btw, happy new year people, hopefully this one will be better.
grbmaverickmo, If you are implying you may have a set of 6901's for sale drop me a PM I am interested
Good thread...too bad I have nothing to add. My 6901s fit fine with the power steering setup, and still work well with the manual steering setup. I think the pitman arm has been removed and put back on wrong, or something...?
I took the arm off, but could have sworn I put it on correctly, the wheel turns lock to lock, but maybe something is wrong. If it make a difference, I originally had manual steering, converted to p/s, hated it, went back to manual, but kept the p/s box in with the manual arm, the boxes looked identical dimension wise but who knows.
I think you probally have the arm on right its the headers. As for the 6901`s you might of had a bad set I can personally say I have had 2 of the same header and they fit different.
I'm going to fab up a mock exhaust pipe with a bell on it and see if I can make it clear, just need the rain to stop, maybe this weekend I can do it
Most of them have a large flat spline, about 1/8" wide, so that it will only fit two ways, right or upside down, and if it were upside down I don't think it would fit the center link....
Wow, what can I say, I've been away for awhile. When I built this header the wheels were turned lock to lock and I felt that a good muffler shop could make the bend around the pitman arm. It was not an oversight. I know that I could easily make the bend work around all the componets. Others have brought this matter up and feel the same way. I have a couple of pic's that I took with the wheel straight foward. The pics posted earlier showed the reducer bolted to the header. This piece is supplied so that the muffler shop can cut it to size and weld his bend to it. This header was not designed to have a straight outlet.
That pretty much clears it up right there. Everybody else was getting worried that they wouldn't work - not me though. Good news. Thanks again for your efforts.
I've spent some time under my car the last few days looking into all this, I also think that any good exhaust shop will be able to make it fit, no problem. I should also add these are the nicest headers I've ever owned, the quality is 100%, and I hope this doesn't stop you from doing any other designs in the future, this has to be the first "NEW" set of headers designed for a Maverick in almost 20 yrs.and the first set ever designed for a Maverick. You said you could do it, and you did. Thanks again for the time you've spent getting these to the market, and I'm going to order another set in the spring.
I was just wondering if my car was screwy, these are very nice, , just need a little brain storming, overall, I am very pleased, I'll let you guys know if my cut/weld elbow works, as I don't have many good exhaust shops around here, I know I'm NOT going to midas, they're dumb as bricks up here. Thanks Jamie
