Nice job so far on your build Interesting how you dealt with the big hole needed for the V-Gate shifter - I originally installed one in my 70 that has the smaller tunnel and had most of the driver's side of the tunnel cut out before it fit - then the shifter hole was so large the boot would not cover the hole - wound up transplanting a larger tunnel out of a 72 in it
Sorry for no updates, I have been pedal to the metal to get it done. She still needs some tuning but its driveable, I have a few miles on her. I still have a few loose ends to clean up, plenty of time before we leave Saturday for Drag Week. My girls My favorite pic
Great job,I know you`ve been working pretty hard to get so much done in such a short period of time, car should be a blast to drive.
Thanks Guys! It is fun to drive except for the locker.....its a nascar take out unit and is very noisy!
Just put in your favorite tunes and turn the volume up, I drove a quick change rear with straight cut gears for a number of years in a car with very little insulation............after a while you just don't notice it.
Drag Week is complete! The car didn't run the number I was hoping, but it is more about the experience/survival!! Ran the nitrous on day 3, popped one head gasket......changed it only to have the other one fail later that night. I think the fuel solenoid failed. We ran N/A every other pass, had a terrible bog out of the hole. It hooked like crazy but wouldn't 60'. We have plenty of time now to get it figured out. No good pics as I forgot the camera. I do have some of the check point pictures on my phone, they are not great.
The best pass was day 1- 13.89@ 99, The rest were low 14's @ 100. 60' was consistent 2.1x whether I launch at 4800 or just off idle. I thought the car would go high 12's on the motor.
sorry to hear about the slower than expected performance. i hope you had lots of fun. do you plan on doing it again next year? i hope so. you should have it all sorted out by then. sense you didnt take any pics its your duty to scour the internet to find some pics of your car to post! well only if you want to
Bryant is right, you have time to get everything sorted out and more seat time in the car. When I purchased my Maverick I really expected to dip into the 10's the first time out....................unfortunately I was really disappointed that I couldn't get down to where I thought it would run....and it wasn't the car, but the driver. I just need a lot more seat time to get used the car................and it used to my driving style. I'm sure you hit your numbers...............just a little more fine tuning and seat time....................IMHO
I agree, it is a car you have to drive. Taking it untested wasn't a great idea, but was the only option. I am not too beat up about it, as we survived. This was the hottest Drag Week on record. More seat time is in the future!
I kept checking the facebook feeds for any pictures of your car, I'll have to watch. The videos when I get home. Even if it wasn't as fast as you wanted, its still Cool that you did it, I saw a few cars that had some issues...
