It already has black factory painted pinstripes ... they look fine in the front but are gonna clash with the vinyl roof on the 1/4 panels ....
Hey Dan, could you please give me the link to the website where you buy the paint in the cans to match the body color of the car, I had it written down but I seem to have lost it or misplaced it. Much appreciated.
http://www.autopaintdirect.com I just had to order 6 more cans to finish the car ... I didn't have nearly enough left from the hood and front fender to finish the driver side or the passenger side. FYI ... the paint is Valspar SunCryl Enamel. I found the correct directions for the paint on the web. Prep surface with 400 Grit Paper. Spray 3 wet coats - no mist coat - allow 20 minutes between coats. I have also found that it lays down smoother when it is cooler and low humidity. I painted the hood on a hot humid night and it didn't lay down nearly as smooth as the fender which I sprayed last night in the dark at around 65 degrees ... I had to color sand and buff the hood ... The fender will just need a buff to blend and thats it ..
I didn't get much done today before I ran out of paint. I'll have to let this dry for a week so it doesn't lift. Then I'll wet sand with 400 and finish it up. It looks like there is a dent or two in the 1/4 panel but that is just the reflection of the newspaper and the clutter in my garage ...
BTW Dan, on their site they only have paint chips for 1993 and up. what did you do just call them up tell them what your color code was and that it's for a 74 Maverick? I presume you got enamel it says that it's the same kind of paint a body shop uses and you should coat it 2-4 times did you? sorry for so many questions just trying to get all the info.
Just click on the spray paint can in the middle of the page to go to the order form. It will have spaces for Year, Make, Model, Color Name and Color code on the order form. I specified single stage Enamal in the comments ... I assume they automatically would send that anyway since that would have been the original type of paint.
Thanks ... now only if somebody could perfect the spray nozzle for better coverage and make cans 3 times as big ....
Hey Dan, Im going to use this paint to paint a set of sport mirrors, when you painted the set that is on your 74 did you do what you listed above? please let me know what your stages were, and how good did yours come out? I want them to come out as good as possible. Thanks again
I used a different brand of paint on the mirrors. I removed the glass then hand sanded out as many imperfections that I could in 5 minutes. I then primed them. Let dry and painted them without sanding. Let dry and reassembled. They are not perfect but look fine ... I will be sanding all the panels with 400 grit when I finish painting the car because I want them smooth and perfect ...
