Terry, do you remember that day at Summit and i asked you to open my car door and tell me what you smelled? it was 90ish. that day and the car had set in the sun for about 2 hrs. you looked inside and said..."it smells like new upholstery"...there was no mention of roofing material smell...
X2, My Dad and I were discussing using some at one point. I cut some open after it cured and it looked like a big sponge. We were afraid of the same thing since the Mav seems to be prone to corrosion already, especially here in GA. Ford uses some in door panels to fill dead space, but it is formed and isolated from the metal by sheeting or being wrapped in plastic.
Up here, if you look at Chrysler mini vans, the quarters are rotten, since they used foam as a noise supressor.
I have had the peel and seal in my car almost 2 years in 100+ weather,parked in the sun and I have no smell and it is staying put.
Eastwood makes some stuff now that is like dynamat, but cheaper. $130 a box right now if you buy multiples. Thats what I plan on going with.
Maybe the instant foam holds moisture but I am using it inside. My car also never sees the rain.. Heck, it never goes anywhere
Great thread and comments guys! I'm gonna try the roof sealant and see what i think. I figure worst case scenario, it stinks or doesn't work well and i replace it with the real stuff. The more excuses I have to be out in the garage working on the mav the better
