man, shift points are real important. Shift that thing about 300-500 past peak hp. And then let her fall back into the sweet spot. Oh, and don't be afraid to rev that thing. They want it! They want it!!! lol
I'll give it! I'll give it! - in time. Rick, 9,000? Yikes! Your car must be a total blast to run. I know how good a relatively measley 1.5 60' feels. I can only imagine what your's feels like.
for those of us that have never done it and want to ... can you give us some pointers.. for instance.. how much.. i know it varies... but price what should we bring with us... what do they do will they change setups? will they check and change timing? etc thanks
Well, where I went, (http://strictlypro.com/dyno.htm), the charge was "$70/Two Runs w/wideband" or "$300 Half-Day". I had 6 runs because I was having a chip tuned (Diablosport Chipmaster). Run 1: He first did a 'benchmark' run with the way the car was when I brought it in (no chip). 313RWHP Run 2: He adjusted the timing and fuel pressure, made another run. 333RWH Run 3: Those numbers told him he could go with more fuel pressure and timing. That run got the engine in the ball park of 13 to 1 air/fuel ratio (target). 340RWP Run 4: He programmed my chip and I installed it. Before he even got up to rpm, we could tell something wasn't right. It was only hitting on 7 cyls. Run 5: He programmed a new chip and I installed it. 347RWHP Run 6: Re-programmed the chip to get 13:1 A/F ratio throughout WOT. 350RWHP He charged me $250 for the dyno pulls, $200 for the new chip and $100 to program both chips for a total of $550.00 I had him do some other minor work (at $75/hr) and I got hell out of there when I hit the $675 mark. Again, your mileage may vary. In my experience, the one thing I can ALWAYS count on is, it's going to cost more than the estimate. This shop specializes in tuning the Diablo chip for Ford EFI engines. Other dyno shops specialize in carbureted but probably still charge around the same to tune it and check it, tune it, re-check it to optimize it. If all I was going to do was have him tune my chip, it would've cost me around $300 to $350 - well worth it in my opinion. I would've spent that much in gas, gate entries, fuel, wear and tear on my tow vehicle and trailer etc. That's assuming I knew I had optimized it in a couple of trips to the track. 'Hope this helps. sounds good.. there is a dyno shop out here on the way to and from the drag strip... i am going to call one day when i remember and see what they cost and maybe get a base line as well
