Here's an update The 2.3 turbo a couple posts up, the one that has actually run at the track... It's for sale
Haven't touched it in months. Things are very slow at work, been lucky to get 30 hours, and I have to drive 200 miles round trip to work on this thing. The money is just not there to play with right now. I took the insurance off the Maverick last week, so it's parked for now. Front end is toast on it, needs new ball joints and an alignment badly, and I just don't have the money to mess with it. So I'm depending on that '89 Chevy truck right now, and it burns 20w50 as fast as it burns gas, and if you shut it off it's always anyone's guess weather or not it's going to start back up. All my free time the past couple of weeks has been focused towards getting my '88 Accord Hatchback back on the road, I got everything for it back in the spring, just a matter of bolt it all together and getting a tag for it. Then I'll be cruising with 30+ mpg and all will be well.
is your truck a gas hog??? 350??? sounds like the same dang problems that my dads truck has... THANKS GM!!!
Yes, TBI 2V 350 with a 700R4, odometer stopped at 238,000. Title says it had 173,000 when the previous owner bought it in 1996, and he drove it like 40 miles a day. So 40 miles a day, 5 days a week for 13 years is 135,000 + the 173,000 it already had is like 308,000, plus you have to figure it has more then that since it was a primary vehicle used for general running around and what not. I guess it's been a decent Chevy if there ever was one. It runs a drives great, but if you stomp it, it just leaves everyone behind it in a blue haze. Does come in handy if you have someone riding your ass or something...
I've seen many of those GM trucks with 200K - 300K miles. The good thing about it is that if you decide you want to keep it long term, you can get the 350 blocks everywhere. When you do get to the 2.3, post updates!
The pan from a Pinto or Mustang II works fine. I went so far as to hunt down a set of factory 2.3 mounts from a Brazilian Maverick, but apparently the Brazilian Mavericks had a few differences in that area, so they don't fit right. I'll probably end up keeping it for quite a while. Convenient having a truck around. I'm definitely going to have to put a long block in it sooner or later.
Yea, until last night, I was wondering how accurate the speedometer is on mine. I kind of figured it was reading a little fast with the wheels and tires that are on it.. I was on the way home from Terry's last night driving around I-285 and came up on some newer little Honda Civic that had a digital speedometer. Could clearly see he was running exactly 70, so I slowed down a little and rode next to him for a second, mine was dead on 70 as well. So now I know it's reading right.
So whatever happened with this project? I saw this http://www.mustangandfords.com/tech...ick_four_cylinder_engine_buildup/viewall.html and it got me interested in doing this swap instead of a simple tbi swap, but there hasn't been any updates for a long time. Did it become too complicated or what?
