The Ranger has no drivability issues even when you don't let it warm up. It runs exactly like it's got EFI. It's all in the cam and ignition. The 331's a little tempermental until it warms up, but then so is my 06 GT Stang. Don't even think about hitting the gas pedal until the computer has cycled thru the warmup phase. It'll give you grief everytime you try it.
I have an excellent carb with no choke, and I got it from some goon in Texas with little fish on his walls.
