Please don't take offense, but if it's NEVER gonna be raced, why build such a serious engine?Bragging rights:huh: ?Also,I got to say that with that much cam and a stock stall coverter,it's gonna be a dog in the redlight spurts, you should SERIOUSLY consider at least a 2000 stall.Having said that, very nice car(y) .

With the 3.55s in the rearend, he should do just fine off-the-line. If he wanted to seriously race it, then he'd want a looser converter...

Ive heard that with a higher stall, the car doesnt seem to idle as smoothly while stopped? my dad had some trans work done to his Maverick a little while back, and the trans guy told him this, he decided that he didnt want to change the stall because of that.

It's a case of "While you are at it...might as well do this...."

I could have just bored the block for new pistons, taken the old crank, had it machined for bearings, had the rods reconditioned, etc, etc, etc....OR........just spend $899 and get a 347 stroker kit with all new parts.

I could have taken the original heads, had them totally gone thru, new valves, seals, guides, etc.....................OR................get all new heads for $850

Once you have even done one of the above....might as well get a little bigger cam, etc, etc, etc.

I am not saying (actually......maybe I did) that I will NEVER race it....but I will probably run it down the strip at the Roundup Nationals.

It's a very slippery slope.....once you do one thing....it almosts dictates doing the next step.

I told the engine builder: I want the best horsepower motor you can build that will never be raced on a regular basis, primarily a street car, with power steering, air conditioning, power disc brakes, and look totally stock. I think he accomplished that.

Trust me,the stock stall will kill it for the first 100-200 ft.I had 3.55s with a 3500 stall. It went bad so I put in a stock converter(cheap).Car lost 4 tenths in the 60' and nearly 9 tenths in the 1/8 mile.
    To put it in context,my '72 Comet w/stock 2bbl 302 & 2.79s out back turned 2.1 60' times:D .My '75 4dr w/5.0,B303 cam,ported/shaved heads(E7s)stealth/holley 700,3.55s out back BARELY turned 2.4 60' times w/stock stall:mad: .Thats nearly 3 tenths lost in the first 60' to a stock,STOCK 95,000 mile 2bbl Comet:cry: .When it had the 3500 in it turned 60' times in the 1.9-2.0 range...w/225/70x14 street radials.Believe me,I didn't think that a converter made that much difference...till I lived it.

You actually need a higher stall converter w/a cam over about .490 lift, otherwise it'll not want to idle in gear, some cars will not idle in gear so you see guys pull up to a redlight & kick it up in neutral so it doesn't kick/buck/then die.My cam was a .484 lift(B303)and w/the stock stall it idled in gear(barely)but wanted to "creep" through a light unless you stood on the brake pretty hard.

All I've got to say is, between Craig and Dan Hines, the bar has been raised pretty high! I don't know who is the best at detailing a car but know we have some great inspiration from both of ya'll! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I believe it's the duration, not the lift, that dictates whether or not you need a higher stall-speed converter. Lobe seperation angle also affects idle quality.

So Craig; that cam's gonna pull enough vacuum for power brakes??...

I am collecting new parts for my rebuild, I went to the websites where you got your
brake and fuel lines but didn't see any listing for mavericks. Did you send them
your old lines to duplicate or did you just order straight line and custom bent them.
