What manifold was getting caught on the steering box? I know to put my headers in the passenger side fits in from the bottom, but to put the drivers side in you have to lift the engine about 4" and also put it in from the bottom.:)

The early style Frame mounts were flat with "NO" tab 1971-1973 v8 the later style 73 and up Had that little tabs like yours. .... the 73 and up motor mounts had a lttle notch cut out of the Motormount so the Tab would wouldnt touch the mount. Ill have to see if i have both styles laying around if i do ill shoot a pic.

the passenger side has no problems but the drivers side the #8cyl exhaust is hitting the steering box and wont let me bolt the manifold all the way up? i have early 289hipo manifolds along with later 302/351 manifolds. i will get a pick and post it later.. anyone else run into this problem???

The only manifolds that are supposed to fit are the stock 302 Maverick versions.
That sounds like your problem right there. 289 HiPo manifolds don't fit with a 302, so it is even more likely not to work with a 351.

Get stock manifolds or 351w swap headers.

Yep, you're gonna need headers that are specific to a Maverick.:)

ive seen some others run normal 289 manifolds in their 351 swap w/o issues. but like everything else with these cars, ever case is different.

I was refering to Hipo manifolds. They hit things in the engine bay on a 302. The passenger side hits the firewall too, on a 302... So they will hit at least there on a 351w, as the engine is taller and wouldn't help that particular clearance issue.
