Welcome to the forum! The 351W will swap into our Mav/Comets, it will be a tight fit, however you will definitely have to use stock exhaust manifolds or have custom headers made. Crites use to make custom headers for this swap, unfortunately the owner passed away last year and now out of business.
Nice thing with 351W, it can be stroked out to 408 and with aluminum heads/intake, is about the same weight as stock iron headed 302!

You can cut back the spring towers a little bit and box them in. Hooker 6901 headers should fit if you do that. You'll lose at least an inch of hood clearance...

Yes, C6 will fit, just have to get one with correct bellhousing bolt pattern to match up with 351W

The C-6 won't fit the car very well, and is heavy & unnecessary. The C-4 is plenty strong...

    Yes, if properly built.

Only C4/351 factory combos I've ever seen were some 2bbl Torinos. 4bbl got C6.

    That's for '70 & newer, '69 351 used the cast iron FMX.

I personally know someone who had a Maverick drag car with 351 Cleveland, race cam, converter, 9-inch rear with ladder bars and slicks. It had a stock '67 C-4 and it never broke. Obviously there are upgrades available to make it even stronger...

With my experience with '67-'69 C4, I find that hard to believe.

Three of four lost the intermediate clutches, with fourth breaking the intermediate band. Two were behind 289, two 302, all stock 2bbl. This was in mid/late '70s. Those transmission taught me the art of rebuild.

The Fairlane also broke the intermediate band. PO had it rebuilt shortly after he bought it.

Whatever you say, but I'd bet serious money it had been beefed up along the way.

All I did was stock rebuilds with shift kit. They held up OK behind 2bbl engines.

Beginning 1970 Ford made improvements for better durability.

BTW I knew the transmission tech at local Ford dealership (I repaired his TVs), he said the '60s C4 kept them busy. When I couldn't get my '67 transmission to work, he rebuilt one my others. Kicker, the '67 trans wouldn't work for him either. I told him don't worry about it, keep it for parts. Later he told me I'd installed the internal valve that modulator operates backwards. :( Also told me he didn't think that valve would fit backwards, so never considered that possibility. The next two I built with kits from Sears worked fine.

Unless I was told the wrong year of transmission. The Maverick was a 1971. I used to go to the track and watch him race. He has a picture of the car with the left front wheel off the ground during a launch. It was his brother who told be the trans was a '67...
