I Have a 1970 Ford Maverick and quite a few questions, Hopefully someone on here can help me First off the car has it original 170 cu. in. I6 with a three speed Transmission 8" rear end with 4 Lug Hubs I Plan on adding a Rear sway bar, Rear Air Shocks, Wheel Vintiques 8.00 x 15in Smootie Rims (WVI-13-570404), and Cobra Jet Hood Scoop Dual exhaust splitting Header, A Finned Valve Cover, And an Offenhauser Triple Carb Adaptor Intake (Summit Racing OFY-5205) Currently the car has a single Carter YF but im trying to find two more to fit if I can get the Offenhauser Intake (if those carbs will fit the intake) Can anyone tell me if that setup and those parts will work, also does anyone know where I can find a set or Carter's?
Hopping up a 170. sounds like a lot of fun. I thought about hopping up my 250 for a long time. Then bought a 302 for the maverick. Where are you from? you'll get lots of help here.
The Holley 1904 carbs work well for the outer carbs, this is my 200 I6 with the tri carb setup, my next project to get started, did a 10.5 in the 8th at Powerhouse drag strip, but only one carb was functioning...... Yeah I know it's dirty but I took this pic when I first brought it home, and for what I paid I don't worry about it being clean!
Agreed, only exception would be a turbo 4cyl swap... Rusty T-Bird Turbo Coups are excellent candidates, most were 5-speed... Possibly there is clearance issues with turbo to shock tower, need to check on that...
I would do that, and Im amazed at myself for not tossing the I6 for a V8 right away, But this would be something a little differant, ive barely seen anyone who actually keeps the 6, and I do Know a 302 would be alot of fun But its just a fun little engine and there are some cool preformance parts to supe em up and make em look radical
I Have no Problem with Turbo cars (as long as I dont get stuck in one) Just makes it all the better when an ALL MOTOR car crushes a car runnin turbos or on a "baby bottle"
Ya Not much money will go into the engine actually, Just The INtake, Carbs and Headers, Not so bad really. Plus if I ever need the V8 ill Break out the Big Bad Hell Camino and wake up the Neighbor hood. This little ford will just have to settle for a triple carb I6 ..(for now)..
MOst of my money will go into rims and tires, the sway bar, Shocks/ upgraded suspension, and Managing to find a Fuel cell that will fit since getting a tank seems to take an act of congress for the 70
Eh the car cost me $300 and it runs and drives just fine, Ive replaces the Brakes, The Seats look brand new, Ive got some other ideas for flooring and a headliner, and Im building my own Custom door Panels. I could get my Hands on a 302 and Build it up fairly easy, and its crossed my mind multiple times, That was the original plan when I started. But thats really what everyone has, a Grabber , or Grabber Clone or just some form of a V8 Maverickm, LIke their all competeing to see who can get more Cubic Inches between the Shocks.(That sounds odd) and Im a V8 fan completely but i like these old I6's and BUilding one like this just sounds fun to me, A little differant than what everyone else is doing with these cars. Total Price for the Parts I want (Without carbs for now) is at about $700.00, which I dont think is so bad. and If I ever decide to swap for the V8 ill have a kick ass "Go-Kart" engine
Right Now Ive got two 68 El camino Projects, A 49 Gmc Rat Rod and Im working on FInding a 67 C-10 Stepside 327 4 speed and Buying a 53 Chevy Hardtop 2 door with a 323 Nailhead, I can Handle at least one I6
Some of the Holley 1904's are on E-Bay, when I start this project (and it's getting close) I am looking to buy some of the glass fuel bowls that fit my 1904's from E-Bay, I think they look cool, wont do much for the engine running better but it will look better.
