Did our Mavericks have a body-color or black engine bay from the factory? I have seen many pics of, seemingly, factory engine bays that appear to have been done both ways. Thanks guys.

The earliest Mavericks had black engine compartments like '60s Mustangs until '71 or '72 when they were all body color from there on. Your '70 was probably black from the factory.

The Mavericks built at Dearborn in '72 & '73 were also black.

So, body-color engine bays were indeed a "thing" then? I was up in the air about what to do with mine. I was going to do black at first, but I decided I wanted a little more color under the hood because I'm always under there. I just want to brighten it up. It's not going to be a show car by any means, but I would like it to be a little easier to work on without looking totally out-of-place.

Do whatever looks best to you. Your '70 was black from the factory.

Larry is right, do what you want. I will say however, that I had a white 75, and that is not a color I would recommend to anyone for the engine bay unless you are meticulous in keeping it clean.

Great. Thanks for the info guys. My '70 did have a black engine bay from the factory, but I took that coating off a few years ago to smooth the fire wall and make some mods. The car is currently Emerald Green Metallic, but the new color is going to be Calypso Coral.
