I am restoring my 1971 mercury comet and icam very intent on keeping it as factory original as possible. I am curious as to what type of paint might have been used in1971. also the details of iterior paint on the textured doors, how shiny would they have been new?

Doors would not have been shiny on the inside from the factory. Semi-gloss I would say.

It is very important to me to preserve the history of the car down to even the strangest details. Even original desigh flaws of the cars would be interesting to keep. My goal is to be able to see someone who would have bought one new, being able to sit in the car and completly be taken back to 1971. I want him to remember everything the car had down to every last detail.

That's certainly your prerogative, but it makes for a very boring car. I love Mavericks & Comets for their potential. The original looks and performance are severely lacking.

In all fairness my comet is far from stock im not too worried about the drive train being stock. Just all other aspects of the car.
