Hi guys, I have some buddies that are in a bit of a predicament. I thought they were building a 302-based stroker for a 1973 Maverick (that used to be mine), but I've learned recently that they'd built a 351W for it! Now, of course, they're hit square upside the head with the headers issue. I've done a lot of research here, and I know about Crites. I know you can't find a set to easily install from anywhere else. I know about their 5000' pipe deal and won't build them, etc. I know about cutting shock towers and the MII swap. They're not really amused by any of this, understandably (although I am fairly amused at their motor choice without doing research first). So... they're now wondering if they could maybe do some fender wells. I haven't looked at the engine compartment of that Mav in a long time, so I don't know. Anyone here done that, or have any other recommendations? I'd like to help these guys out if I could. Thanks for your time. Mike
these are the only ones i've ever seen. but this was a 460/MII build...these cars just dont have alot of room there, especially with the shock towers.
The shock towers are the problem on Mavericks. Mustangs had a wider engine bay so it is not as big a deal with headers on a 351W. Most folks notch the spring towers a bit, it gives some room. There are several threads on here describing what others have done, just use the search box to look at them....
