Gotta get up early and go get a trailer then come back to load the Maverick. Should be there about 9:30 or so. I was gonna drive to FFW but the new (less than 20 miles) fuel pump played out yesterday. I already replaced the pump but don't trust it yet

Just got home ,had a great time and am glad I decided to go! I sure hope someone got lotsw of pics to post, I didn`t bring a camera.
The rain held off and turned out to be a good (hot) day after all .... Here are the pics I took .... http://www.dmhines.com/Our_Website/Dixie_Maverick.html The Story: Now if anyone was following along my previous threads I am having gas gauge problems. My gauge is stuck at 1/2 full. Earl, Jamie and I decided to go out for dinner after leaving the show. About 5 miles down the highway my Grabber runs out out Gas. Luckily Earl was behind me and we both pulled over on the shoulder on 85 South with cars and trucks flying by at 80 MPH. Earl heads out to find the nearest gas station while Colton and I stay with the Grabber. Ralph Price drives by and pulls over so I tell him Earl is getting gas so Ralph leaves. Jamie then catches up and pulls over and waits with me until Earl gets back. Earl gets back and he only could find a 1 gallon gas can ... that leaked like a sieve as soon as it was tilted to pour. Got as much gas in as possible and couldn't get the car to start. State Trooper pulls up and hangs for a while to see if we get started ... no go. We figure the problem maybe that the cars are on a hill so we ask the trooper is it OK to let the car roll about 1/4 mile backwards down the hill to flat ground. He says you would be going the wrong way against traffic but as long as we keep in on the shoulder its OK. Trooper leaves saying he's looking for a reported person walking up the highway. We let the cars roll backwards down 85 to flat ground. Still can't start car. Jamie volunteers to go get another gallon of gas. It starts to rain. Jamie gets back and before putting more gas in the tank we also fill up the fuel filter thinking that will help prime the gas line. Earl pours some gas in the carb and VROOM ... it running and gas is flowing once again from the tank to the carb. Yeah. Just as we get going it starts raining cats and dogs ... the bottom of the cloud falls out and Earls driver side wiper blade falls off. We make it about 5 miles to the gas station in the pouring rain. I add more gas ... Earl fixes his wiper blade with a set of pliers and we wait a little while for the rain to slow under cover of the gas station. Jamie has lots of pictures of the out of gas fiasco .... The good news is now I now what my problem is ... the Sending Unit is bad .... Colton got at least 20 18 wheelers to blow their horns using the standard "pull your horn" 18 wheeler horn signal.
Click the pic below, and you can scroll through some of the pics I took in my gallery. Now, onto our gas crisis... Dan and Earl left the dragway and I stuck behind with Bobby (ford84stepside) for a few minutes to snap some pics of mine and his cars together to send to the previous owner of the cars (cdeal28078). Bobby, it was great seeing you again, and that car is coming along great! I then headed out to catch up with Earl and Dan. We had decided to grab a bite to eat at Zaxby's, which is a few exits down I-85. I figure they are probably almost there already, and once I get on I-85 I give Dan a call just to double check which exit the Zaxby's is off of. He says he is out of gas, on the side of I-85. A few more miles up, I see him and pull off. We hang out and wait on Earl to get back. Then it goes on as Dan describes. Here's the pics: Dan and his son Colton as we wait. Every time the semi's passed by, the cars shook around from the wind off of them. Dan's better then show room condition '71 Grabber, broke down. By this point, I'm already thinking, Frank's going to get a real kick out of this. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Earl to the rescue! Dan attempts to pour gas in the tank while simultaneously trying to keep the gas can from leaking all over his car. Earl and Colton observe. After I go get another gallon of gas, we're back on the road, and not a moment too soon! We get stuck in a complete downpour while making a mad dash to the nearest gas station. We get gas, it rains. Earl gets gas, has windshield wiper trouble, it rains. It rains some more. We eat! Dan bought supper for Earl and I. Thanks again Dan! All in all, I had a great time. It was great seeing everyone again. Can't wait 'till next time!
Well................that ain't the end of the story. I had to go about an hour and a half farther than Dan and Jamie, so after dinner, off we go. I get into Atlanta, bad traffic, and smell antifreeze! I look over and see a puddle sloshing around in the dash tray, and I am in bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of downtown Atlanta. Temp gauge says good, so I am going to try and get the thing home. I know the heater core is toast, but try not to think about it. Later, as I am staring at the temp gauge and oil pressure to make sure I don't fry the engine, I hear this roar and LOUD squeak from the front of the engine. Scared the bejesus out of me. I turn on the air, and it keeps up, and the roar gets louder. Well, I finally got home and took a look. Bad heater core, for sure. Water on the deck! Also, the a/c compressor is the source of the squeak, so I turned it off, said good night, and I will deal with it tomorrow. All in all, a very interesting and fun filled day. Tomorrow, however, might be another story. The meet was a blast, and it was so good to see everyone again. Glad everyone got home ok. Later,
Glad you made it home Earl ... when it rains it does pour! I didn't bother messing with my car either ... just in the garage and I'll clean it up tomorrow ... I'm beat from the heat. I'll clean up, drain the gas and pull the sender tomorrow. Thanks again Jamie and Earl .... On a positive note ... I see that the Fuel Senders from AutoKrafters have a 5 year warranty. Hopefully they have me on file since I don't have a receipt and I think I bought it about 4 1/2 years ago ...
Sorry I missed it, but I did find my phone problem and Ma Bell was wrong and has to come back out on Monday. Good thing most everybody had to go home the same way.
