This was all I was able to get done this weekend. I was satisfied with how much I got done considering I spent most of the weekend chasing down parts.

Thanks! First time doing a cowl repair. At first I felt like I was messing something up. Soon as the first spot weld popped loose, I was in the groove, LOL. Yeah, it's been eating at me. I'm dying to get it fixed so I can get on with fixing the floor pans. Hoping to have the cowl removed completely next weekend.

I see, in at least one hole, where you cut all the way through with your spot weld cutter. I have a bunch that went right on through that I will have to deal with. I haven't welded my outer cover back on yet because I ran out of Rust Bullet back in the fall and I was going to wait to order more once the warm weather came back again :)

Yeah, I only managed to do it to one. One more than I was hoping for. Now I'm getting a "feel" for it, and know where to stop. I've heard lots of good things about Rust Bullet. Por-15 as well.

I figure it this way- - -I'm only going in once and I'm not coming out until it is double coated :biglaugh:

I never want to see the inside of this part of the car ever again :thumbs2:

My same exact words. Well, for THIS car only. I have another Maverick that needs it done as well. A '73. Then later on, my Dad is wanting me to do his Comet. So, I have two more times at doing it. LOL.

Well, I wasn't able to do anything to it last weekend as I had some BAD troubles with kidney stones. This weekend has been a different story. Got quite a bit of work done and still have all day tomorrow to go. The cowl is finally cut out and awaiting repair. Here are some updated pics:

Doesn't look that bad - your damage looks to just be in the rings but you still needed to go this far to find that out. I took a wire wheel in a drill and cleaned the entire cowl - the wire wheel exposed a few pin hole spots that I would have never seen with my eyes but now is the time to find it all :thumbs2:

Yeah, That's only the real damage. Which is enough, LOL. That's why a few spots in the floor pans are gone. I'm glad the job is over with. TONS of spot welds. Overall though, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I am glad I did it though so I can make sure it won't be leaking any other time in the future. One less thing to worry about.

Clean it real well and cover it with 2 coats of Rust Bullet or POR 15 and it should never see the light of day again :)

Exactly what I was planning on doing. Probably even do the inside of the cover too just to be safe.
