I've been perusing the forums for the past month via Google searches, so I figured it was about time I finally joined.
I picked up a '74 Comet last month as a father and son project. My son is 15 (with a learner's permit) and I thought this would be a nice starter car.
It has 67,000 original miles... and I picked it up at a great price (only $3K). The tires are brand new and it's in pretty good shape.
My son is the happiest kid in the neighborhood right now.

    Sounds good... and thanks!
I've already begun the process of tuning up, replacing parts, and upgrading. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions along the way, as well as my own little discoveries and tips to share.

WOW! What a great car!! Very, very nice find! I remember seeing it's twin in a junkyard in Edmonton Alberta about 17 years ago... Orange is a pretty rare interior colour. Do you plan on getting a Marti Report?

Thanks for all the replies and kind words!

To answer some of the questions...

It has the Inline 250/1v with an automatic transmission. But it has manual steering and brakes. I believe the tires are 60's in the rear.

In our first month we've done...

    New master cylinder
    New valve cover gasket
New brakes all around (drums turned, etc)
    New spark plugs
New stereo (JVC - lights up orange!)
    New speakers (front & rear)
New rotor (cap & wires are like new)
New material on rear deck (orange stick-on felt)
    New steering wheel cover
    New headlights
New tail light bulbs and interior bulb
New dash-top (pre-molded, not installed yet)

This car actually spins the wheels pretty good when you jump on it. Not bad for an old 6cyl smog motor!

This is the second time I've heard that the orange interior is more rare than the orange exterior.
From what I've been told, this car was originally from North Carolina. The second owner (who I bought it from) only had it for 11 months and he never did a single thing to it. He had planned to drop in a 302, but he procrastinated and his wife wanted her garage space back. So he put it up for sale and I found it on Craigslist.
It looks as if the front end was replaced at some point, but they actually did a decent job. The interior of the trunk is so clean that it looks like it just rolled out if the factory. It even came with the original (bias) spare tire and it also looks like new. Someone put new weather stripping on the door frames and in the rear windows, so it's water tight. There's a few minor rust spots that the pics don't show (bubbling, etc) but nothing that will require any major surgery. In the future I'd like to go with headers and duals and get a conversion plate and put a 2 barrel carb on it. Probably electronic ignition, too. But first we're going to get the body and paint done so it looks clean as can be.
I was surprised that all the buttons on the seat backs are still there and the vinyl seats haven't split.... "yet"... Lol.
