    well,

Still no cam swap, still haven't finished trimming everything out.
My car has been at the shop for soooo long! It's now running on 7 cylinders due to it just being pulled in and out. I alway bring it up to temp before I move it, but the other folks at the shop just pull it out as soon as it'll move.
    soon. soon. soon.
    Hey Cliff,
When are you planning on coming down?
Maybe we can get some of the other somewhat local folks together and do a mini meet?

    bump.

Really, I'll get to it one of these days..
On a different note, I had another damn collector gasket blow out, and while I had it up in the air I was looking at all the dings on the bottom of the flanges and decided they had to go.
The only gaskets in my exhaust system now are between the headers and the heads and I gaind about 3/4" of ground clearance.

    hehehe

Frank. I had an incident with some particularly tall speedbumps trying to rip those flanges out from under my car along with the center post in the floor hoist at work, so now I won't have that trouble any more, not to mention no more gaskets to blow out on me.

Courier-- I cut my flanges off too. It made the difference on the speedbumps. I haven't caught on another since. Before, I couldn't go over them.......gut-wrenching sound of metal on concrete. I think you will find that the 3/4 of an inch will make a heck of a difference. It did for me anyway. Good luck! Country

Yes, My headers are the older style, and had the square 4 bolt flanges, so I couldn't find any reducers around here to bolt up to it and I wound up welding it. At first I left the flanges on, thinking that might find the correct reducers one day, but after dragging on anything and everything I came across...........they had to go. Country

    Yep.

I just cut out the flanges and a bit of pipe on either side and welded in sections of pipe.
Working at an exhaust shop has its advantages.
The drivers side was just a straight shot, but since the passenger side exits pointing out and up I had to bend a peice for it.
I know what you're going to say, now I can't remove my headers, but unless I get new ones or blow up my engine, why would I want to?
Anyway, never again will I have to hear a leak there.

I was thinking more like servicing the transmission. It seems to be the high maintence item.

    Good point Dennis.

I'll try and take a pic to put up here.
Transmission servicing shouldn't be a problem, but if it has to come out altogether, the saw has to come out.

Thats what I was thinking. A good alternative would be to have connectors made like the late model Mustangs use. One end is ball shaped and the other end is like a flaired pipe. They clamp together with 2 bolts and no gaskets. They come apart real easy too. I had these put on my exhaust so I can easily drop the entire exhaust system out, from the headers, to the front of the rear axle. Just a few bolts and the whole thing comes right out. I figured if I didnt, I'd blow a clutch for sure.

I can make those flanges with the bender at work, and they are pretty nice, but I have to admit I'm just too lazy sometimes to go to that much effort. Those ball flanges are a pain to get just right.

of course now that I've done it this way I'm sure my transmission will explode next time I drive the car.
    hehehe
