ok i got a 351 H.O. from an 84 f 150 and a 5 speed from a fox body what would it take to drop that in place of a 170 and 3 on the tree ie motor stands, tranny crossmember, and so on so on i wanna keep my mav original but i still like the idea of a small block swap this is going to be a daily driver so i would like to know if it is possible to swap yhis in one weekend and what all i would need to change
"if it is possible to swap yhis in one weekend " Only if you have EVERYTHING you need as in parts and tools, and about 20 mechanic buddies that work for Nascar along with a huge shop.
They aren't trying to deter you, I think. But for one the 351 is a tight fit. Just to think off the top of my head, you will need exhaustmanifolds or headers, a better/different radiator, V-8 motor stands, a custom tranny crossmember ( I would reccommend one from 71GOLD 2 posts up), drive shaft will work, clutch linkage or set up (easiest set up is probably the cable type that a few have done), fuel delivery, and there are going to be many more worms once you open that can. Not saying it couldn't be done but without having done one before and not having all the parts needed at hand it is probably not possible, in a weekend.
No not trying to deter you, I just ...well still am trying to do this swap myself and it has been a PITA, it was much easier to do the I6 to 289 swap on my other Grabber, still have not finished the clutch yet but I hope soon I can, then I got lucky and I don't have to cut a hole in my hood, and it took me two weeks to get the engine to sit down on the mounts but I only had to pull it back out three or four times to clearance everything.
Its probably not going ta happen any time soon its an idea I've been tossing around if I do doo it I wanna have everything I need before I start
Depends on your abilities and equipment on hand. Yes I could do that here at work with a full equipped shop in 2 days if everything went perfect and all parts on hand. Of course that never happens in the real world.LOL. Thats 20 plus years experience in the trade etc blah blah blah. and a pretty good level of experience on this chassis. The clutch would be the big hold up and Im sure the job would take a couple more days to get the bugs out. Then it has to go out for exhaust work. You aint getting this done in a weekend with a 5 speed.
Sng means s#*%$ and giggles this post was just for Angeles to get other members input on getting this done
