My mechanic forgot to install a fuel filter on the carburetor after putting a new carb and intake on the engine.
That's why it was running so rough and wouldn't idle right. I check out the rear end and the tranny and they were functioning ok. When I was able to keep an idle the car drove ok.

So now what, he has the car so I'm just wondering whether the carb needs to get rebuilt or not.
The tank was close to empty so I'm sure pretty of sediments could have potentially worked their way into the carb.

Oh yea, that's right. I forgot. If it was a Ford I was going to say that it should have a screw in one. You said "fuel filter on the carburetor" so I was hopeful for you. I would have to agree that some sediments could have gotten into the carb, but who knows. Might at least have the bowls cleaned out. Good luck.

thanks. I'm surprise he missed the fuel filter but poor guy, he did a lot of stuff to the car. I'm sure if I did it I would have forgotten something more vital! :)

Did it already have one? Is it being relocated or something?

check the screw in feed nipple on the side of the carb. sometimes people put a little brass fuel filter in there instead of using an inline one.I personally hate them but.....

Fuel filter is supposed to catch that stuff. I'd bet you just need to change the filter.:)

ive seen those carbs get cloged up with rust from the fuel tank before. you just have to clean them out. usually dont even need a new gasket for the carb. this is a sign that your tank is in bad condition on the inside.
