    Craig,

I probably should clarify there .... the hole is very close to 6x9, and the bolt pattern is weird.

I put Infinity speakers in there and they would not fit down into the indent. I had to drill two holes further outboard in order to mount the speakers. I believe the Infinitys to be a standard industry pattern for 6x9s and the Ford pattern to be slightly off from that.

Only the 76 - 77 cars had the foot parking brake. Prior to that it was a hand parking brake just to the left of the steering column in the lower dash.

I agree the mounts are slightly off from a standard 6 x 9.
Ford seems to like 6 x 8 speakers. I will have to try and see if one lines up perfectly in a Maverick.

I have found that 6 x 9 line up perfectly.....but then again....I always mount mine from the bottom. On my 1972 I did have to drill holes on one side. On my 1976 they bolted in using the factory holes already there on both sides.

So, we probably have yet another mid-run design change to consider with regard to rear speakers ...

Boy, did we ever hijack this thread ... sorry guys.

I don't know much about the speakers, but i'd think just adjusting the equalizer on the radio would work, however buying a separate equalizer would work as well.

My mav's factory holes are 6x9 also just to put it out there. I bought the cheap RoadMasters for $20 at Wal-Mart they seem ok for now, but I only listen to rock or metal I don't need a "System". I'll eventually upgrade to JVC or something though.

I had a set of 5 1/4 in the kick panels that came with the car. I disconnected them, but left them in the kick panel, grabbed a set of 2 1/2 speakers, something like 50W Optimus or something, cheap, but pretty good.

Never did get around to mounting them, but the magnet would hold them under the dash quite nicely, a little work and got them tied tightly and pointed towards the seam of the front seat. Looks like crap, but you have to get in the floorboard to see them.

In hindsight, I'll probably do the same when I get her back together, but neaten it up a bit.

Pioneer 3 way, 100W 6x9 in the back, 100W amp, one 12 woofer in a 5 gallon bucket with a port and 250W going into it.

Dirt cheap, and believe it or not, sounded absolutely spectacular. The bass was turned down on the front as the little speakers couldn't handle it, the amp kicked up the 6x9s and the 12, and I never did find a song that would make that system distort.

In the car, it sounded like a professional sound system. Outside the car, you couldn't hear the bass any more than a stock system.
