I respectfully disagree,:Handshake Demand is down due to summer travel dropping off, and oil speculators had driven prices up due to the unknown situation in Iran ( 4th largest producer in the world), ( sanctions were expected at the end of August that never happened)
Though they would like to, Polititians can't tell the prospectors when to buy or sell, to drive oil prices up or down, World events, ( growning economy in China increasing demand, People over here driveing huge SUVs they will never really need etcetera do that. Expect them to rise as cold weather sets in due to heating demands though.
If sanctions are finally placed on Iran, or even if efforts are stepped up to place sanctions on them, you could see prices rise again. It gets blamed on elections, because elections happen to take place in November... about the time people are turning their furnaces on again.

Again I say this respectfully, so no hard feelings meant...Cool(y)

    Great....another Economics discussion!!

Oil is traded on the open market. Oil is sold by the barrel. The cheaper a barrel of oil...the cheaper the pump price. Poliiticians....no matter how hard they try....could never effect the price of a barrel of oil on the open WORLD market.

Well said, I think there are other factors that have much more influence.
    :cough: OPEC :cough:

Yep Opec :evilsmile certainly has some control ( understatement) as they can simply reduce production to lower supply driving up prices.... HMM :16suspect I wonder if the Comet should be converted to electric..:tiphat:

My 72 still has the big black vent filter mounted on the passenger side. I have always whanted to pull it out but the "big black thing" is tighed in to the fuel tank lines and do not whant to mess with it. Is that possibly a source of the slow and pain in the but fueling problems?

Can you post a picture of that? It sounds like a California emissions system that I have only seen on 1970 Mavericks.

This must be a charcol filter. One Metal line goes into the top and a large rubber hose goes out of the other side of the top with a plastic cap in the middle. The vin designates that it is a south Georgia car.

So you are talking about the charcoal canister up in the engine compartment? Different animal than what I was thinking about.

Can you still yank the canister out and not effect the fuel system?

The canister only collects fumes/vapors. It has "0" effect on performance
