I noticed the sender does have tabs. I must had been thinking about another sending unit I installed on something else that didn't have them

I didnt use a new sock when I put mine back in, I went sockless. On a car that is driven regularly and you know theres no gunk in it then you could go without a sock and let the fuel filter catch the debri. Its easier to change anyways.

I went ahead and ordered a new sock, o-ring and new locking ring. The original locking ring was so pitted and hard to remove from rust I decided to just replace it.

Good deal, the parts a fairly cheap since they are popular. Why not spend a coiple of bucks and avoid repeating the job.

Exactly...I'd rather spend a few bucks up front if that avoids more expense and time of doing the job over again. (y)

Yes.....the old "If you don't have time to do it right....will you have time to do it over?" saying comes to mind. Looks you two agree. :Handshake

As well as this saying, "If you can afford to do the job right the first time...how will you be able to afford to do it a second time?"

    Update

Ok, so a few weeks back I got a new sending unit/pickup from AutoKrafters and installed it...great! So off to the gas station to put some gas in it. The guage reads nearly empty as I only had about 2 gallons to put back in the tank when I got it back together. I only put in about 4 gallons at the station and the guage goes to a little more than 1/2 tank! What? Aren't these 16 gallon tanks so I would have expected maybe a tad over 1/4 tank. Then when I drove it out to the track ( about a 45 minute drive ) the guage drops dramatically...like about 1/4 tanks worth...WHAT? My gas mileage isn't that bad...I usually use maybe an 1/8 of a tank on this type of trip so I'm not sure what is going on. Any ideas?
