Has anyone here mounted 2 5/8 gauges in the dash? I have a drag-strip only car and was trying to decide to mount in dash or under dash on a bracket. Anyone have any pics of what they did?

    Thanks
    Mark

I mounted gauges in the dash on a home made pod.

My wee 2" guages in a pod

My "street car" has only 2" guages... but I chopped up an old Proto toolkit because it fit PERFECTLY inside the package tray ( 4 1/2" x 19" steel box with 3 1/2" showing through the face).

I wanted to close in the side and hide the wires so there is 3 quick-remove screws on the side to check the oil line for leaks and change a bulb if I ever need to. Had to mount these before mounting the stereo in mine.

They aim straight out from the dash - looks good from the back seat but makes em hard to read at night... that's why I chose the Equus white face with coloured lights. Red needle is easy to spot day or night. I suppose you want to be able to read them at a glance if your racing... I know when I raced that more than 2 seconds to read your guages is... like... 1 second too long... heh.

I'd say use the dash. Someone used the square hole for the ashtray to mount a custom wooden pod... tilted towards driver, and you can run the cabling and tubes through the back of the ashtray instead of drilling huge holes in the curved dash.

There's my suggestion... here's my little guages in a pod:

Wow... that looks awesome... better than the wooden box I just mentioned... are those hinges?

Great ideas! I like them. I don't have the package tray, so I'm leaning towards putting them in the dash similar to the way Mavaholic did, but I'll mount the tach on top of the dash probably.

    Thanks

I always wanted to run them in a straight line down the face of the dash, all in turn tubes. I'd like to see that...
    Anyone?

This would be close, but it's in Brazil. Shipping's not too bad though...

    Yeah, that is close.
I think it could be nicer with individually cut tubes.
The only reason I have never done it myself is I don't want to cut up the Sprint dash, and the 75 has A/C, so the vent is in the way...

I'll end up doing it to the 75 one day...

i mounted them in the dash but i need to make some kind of tubes to get the angles of the gages right because of the wonderful curve to our dashes
