Perhaps Dans is the ONLY Diesel Grabber in exsistance...It could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars! Dan ,when you restored it, did you see where the holes on the roof had been filled in the place were the factory air horn use to be? Just kiddin` Glad you got it straightened out,and sorry it cost you so much. I think you`ll love the roller motor , I know I really like mine:bananaman
Why, oh why, would you have even thought of diesel fuel being in the tank? That's why they are called mistakes and accidents, 'ol buddy.
Usually you can't even FIT the nozzle for diesel into a regular gasoline tank, out here the nozzles are bigger in diameter and won't fit most cars, I'm glad you solved the problem though!
Wayne becareful not all Green fuel nozzels are diesel. Some stops around here have all green handles so you could put gas into you PSD. Just a heads up. Russ
xp; remember, in 1972 all the nozzles were the same size, as no unleaded gas was around, or at least not mandated for use. The diesel nozzles are the same size as the leaded gas nozzles used to be. Just glad he solved it out. Take care, and keep on Maverickin'
I have seen diesel nozzles in two sizes. One size like Earl said, is like in the old leaded fuel days and another that is very large for high volume delivery (typically you only see these where the big rigs fill up) can flat fill the tank in my F250 in a hurry. So it appears all is well in The Hines Corral!
His wallet and his pride may have suffered a little bit, but Dan is upright, shoulders thrown back, walking forward, and being the champion that he's always been.
I guess he should really be thankfull that he never sold his 74 to buy that new engine.......... could you imagine how bad this could have been....
The pre-cat cars did not have the restrictor in the tank inlet to prevent insertion of 'big' nozzles. Old lead pumps and diesels did/do have big nozzles. Dan wouldn't have noticed the difference there. Although, I guess he runs '87 or any octane or he may have noticed the difference. Damn, Dan. I hate that happened. Oh well, such is life. Now go cruise. Call us before you change the oil!!!! Seth
Drove the car down the road to the gas station to fill up. My upholstery guy is in the same building so he came out to check out the car. After chatting about the car I put 6 gallons of Premium Gas in since ... I had already put 5 in last night .... Went to start it ... It wouldn't start ... sounded like it wasn't get spark. Guy came over to help and we verified spark was there ... hmmm ... I pushed it over to the side to check it out ... maybe not getting gas? I didn't have the clear filter on any longer so I couldn't tell. I popped the hose off the fuel pump ... saw some gas running out and put it back one. Pull the air cleaner off and pressed the throttle. Saw some gas go in so the carb has gas. Went back and tried again and it started up. I drove it back home and and it is very peppy to say the least. Since this was it's maiden voyage I did not beat on it but it seems pretty quick. Guess I have a little more troubleshooting to do on the startup issue ...
Great to here its running ! Like I said in my other post ,I really think you will love the roller motor
I'm glad you got it going Dan. Dealing with diesel every day for the last 20 years, I've got to say some of the replys were correct, some not. First, you can't always go by the color of the nozzel, I've seen green black, and even yellow nozzels. Second, nozzel size don't mean anything either. I've seen unleaded nozzels used on pumps designated for auto use, as well as the old leaded size. The large nozzels are always for big trucks, when it takes 200 gals or more to fill up, you want all the volume you can get! I've heard of guys with a real high compression motor putting a gallon of diesel in when they fill up with gas to lower the detonation on pump gas so they could drive it on the street, never tried it myself. One good thing about it, you made sure the valves got oiled real good for break in ! Like I said in my other post, my ex brother in law did that years ago, so you are not the first! It could happen to anybody, good thing nothing was hurt except your pocketbook and your pride!
