Dan this just occurred to me, ....to use the am knobs, i used a small metal springsteel bushing which was on the am radio shafts...make sure you get them...I suspect this is why ratio 4;11 s knobs didn't work.. to be honest the engine noise is music to my ears anyway...
I plan on modifying my AM/FM shafts via the dremel ... the AM knobs will work fine ... they should since I can put AM/FM knobs on the AM and they work. I just gotta bug Dennis enough now and it will APPEAR 100% correct ....
Dan, if you still need a plain chrome slider (from the same type of radio in Dennis' pictures) I grabbed one at the Pick N Pull today. It's all yours - let me know where to send it. -Corbin
Got to work on the hacking tonight to shorten the radio shafts... Everything worked perfectly ... except the inner rod on the tuner side shaft was not the same diameter the entire length ... the power side was. So for now I applied some PC-7 Two part epoxy filler to the shaft and after it hardens I will shape it properly to install the knob .... This particular radio was also wired from the factory so the backlight came on with the radio. I have the repair manual for the correct AM/FM Maverick radio and it shows the backlight only came on with the dashlights ... just like the AM. So I rewired it to come on with the dashlights.
Shelf, it was build 9/72 so it's a early car (real early). I have decided that I need new knobs, and I'm going to put my XM modulator on it, that way I can hide everything.
