It was in the car from the factory, I'll take a few pic's tomorrow, I'm beat and don't want to go back out to the garage tonight. It's the first Maverick I've ever had with 4 speakers, I didn't really notice it when I bought the car, but once I got it home I was pretty excited. The Marti Report states that 1991 Mavericks came with the AM/FM Stereo Radio in 1973
Dave, Your car came with four speakers from the factory ... where are the front pair located? ... kick panels?
The front 2 are in the kick panels, and the rears in the package tray. I'll take some pic's of it all today.
After I posted this last night ... I had a brainstorm for the AM/FM selector ... just GRIND the word STEREO off and polish it out ... so I did ... Here is the final product ... and here is what it is supposed to look like. Since this Radio is a Bendix and not a Philco it came out perfect ...
Dave, that is very interesting. Don't think I have ever run across a Mav with factory speakers in the kick panels.
73 was the first year to have the cutout area to have speakers behind the kick panel ... they look like this ...
Heres a quick pic of the radio, without the knobs (I was cleaning them) And here's a pic of the speaker in the kick panel (factory speaker)
Dave, I had to trim into a rectangular hole on both of my Comets (71 and 72) just to surface mount some 4 inch speakers that had healthy (not huge) magnets on them. It is cool to know that they changed this for 73- on ... much less of a hassle to install.
Got to go to my first car show listening to music in the Grabber since I bought it ... it's always had an AM radio in it ... and in Georgia either you listen to Boortz and Hannity or Hispanic Gospel on AM .... Now I need to fix the very loud 50MPH+ exhaust drone so I can actually here it ... never had the drone issue until I went from Headers to factory Manifolds .... I guess I need a resonator or something installed?
