Got my steering wheel today

Now I have to go dig out the wheel that I removed to check it. I think it was the same as the one he bought of Ebay. I replaced it because it was HUGE and the rim is skinny. Feels goofy to hold.
My 77 had a giant horn button like the other one shown here.

I remember that style now. OK so the one I have now is a late model. 14" diam. not a 72? Not that it matters. This car is far from original.

 

That is the one that was in my 73 Comet. I presume it to be original but my car is an early 73 made in 72. I am still irked I don't have a glovebox but WHATEVER. I just keep the paperwork in my ashtray.

And both my 72 Comets have that same skinny goofy wheel.

With standard steering and I need the big wheel (I think it's about 86 "turns" of the wheel to get the car turned around in my yard).

I hated the feel of them as well, so soon after I got the car I bought a Bell leather & rubber wheel cover which is black and spongy and feels less "goofy" and actually looks normal. VERY tight fit to get it on but it never twists.

Bad news is I sprained my wrist on Friday and can't drive the Comet with one hand so I had to swipe G/F's Honda over the weekend.

Serious note from earlier messages is not just "short circuits" but a solid horn button that WORKS WHEN YOU NEED IT. I had two leather wrap racing wheels in earlier cars and the problem was constantly loose horn contacts or a weak spring so the horn didn't work when you needed it.

The stock wheels are well made and someone told me you can use bondo and fiberglass resin to repair cracks in the rims.

One of mine is brown - anyone know how you would die or paint one black?

 

Use regular body paint to spray paint steering wheel. Bondo is a no no. Por-15 putty works better. Google is full on this subject
