I've been having transmission problems and was told it was the governor that was the problem. My car has this governor http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=45221&cc=1132175&jnid=482&jpid=7 It has two vacuum hoses going from the governor to the intake. Are they both supposed to go to the same vacuum port? It doesn't make sense that they both hookup to the same port.
That's a oddball one all of mine had the nipple on the end just single one and were adjustable in side of nipple
That's a 73 only modulator, I don't remember how its connected, but I've been told the single vacuum green strip is the one you want.
Well the guy said my problem could be from either of those parts. The governor or the modulator. When I start to accelerate the transmission doesn't slip but it will get to a high rpm before shifting. This basically goes for every gear. It isn't on any particular gear that it does this. Was what I told accurate? Or is it something else? I was told this by a mechanic but I want to make sure
Is this the one you're talking about?http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=64345&cc=1132175&jnid=482&jpid=4
Can't tell from that pic, should have a green stripe on it like this one https://www.google.com/search?q=c4+...d=0ahUKEwj5uKv917vOAhXJ5yYKHXTSBTEQgjYIwgEwAA You will need to get the proper retainer as well.
Oh alright. The one I have on there currently doeset have one but I'll try to find one for that modulator
What you describe sounds like the modulator, governors rarely fail. I had a GM transmission that the vac hose fell off and it would hold 1st and freewheel when you let of the throttle. They do wierd stuff when they fail!
Thank you everyone! I found the green modulator on amazon for $16 by looking up the part number! I hope this works to fix it!!
There is a screw inside the nipple the hose goes on, it changes the spring preload and therefore the amount of vacuum it takes to move the piston. Unless you are needing to fine tune shift characteristics I would just leave it as is.
It's basically adjusting how fast or slow it up shifts from 1-2&2-drive when you're not on the throttle that hard
