here is a pic of the underside. Note left top side, you can see the light coming thru. This is also true on the right side too. http://smegnl.medina.oh.us/images/stories/gals/hood/hood3.JPG Here is a close up of the scoop. There is a definate film over it. Think we are going to go with a real mess there http://smegnl.medina.oh.us/images/stories/gals/hood/scoop.JPG
Hood Update Had people ask, so here is an update on the hood: Body guy put the hood on today. He said it has fit better then any other glass hood he has used. Said the lines were strait and it seemed to fit well. He even doubted he would have to do any trimming on the hood. The only part he didnt like were the scoops. He had to cleanup the line where the faux scoops were "cut out". The inside grid was also subpar. Over all he was impressed. Attached are some pics of the first fit.
Maverick Man i need one of your hoods on our new project. What is the best way to get in touch with you? I have an idea to run by you. Dave
If I were going for the stock grabber look this would be a great hood but I have to say that Maverick Mans grabber hood with the smoothed out openings for the scoops looks SICK! (in a good way). Crites does make some quality parts and we are lucky enough that they make some for our cars. Like I can't believe what some try to sell V-8 motor mounts for when you can buy brand new ones from Crites for just a few dollars more. Anyways, great looking hood, can't wait to see it painted on the car.
I had a thought about replacing mine with some stainless expanded metal. I've seen expanded metal come in all kinds of patterns. Maybe you wouldn't even have to remove that poor formed webbing, just fill them in smooth and apply the expanded metal up against the face of the grills.
A long time ago, I weighed a stock Comet hood and it came in right at 50 lbs. I would imagine a stock Mav hood to maybe be 1-2 lbs lighter, because it does not have the bump-out in the middle. MaverickMan quoted the CF hood at 26 lbs. I seem to remember that fiberglass company everyone seems to dislike (not Crites) as having two versions, street and race. The street version had an inner frame, used the hinges out back and pins up front. I seem to remember it being right around 30 lbs. If you want the race version, it was pinned on all four corners, no frame, and 18 lbs. If you are just looking for weight savings, I think money is better spent on aluminum heads and an intake. You can chop more weight off easier and get performance as a side benefit.
My problem is a crashed car that needs a new hood. I would prefer a metal one but am having a hard time finding one.
