I cut the wifes open when we first put her car together. First thing you'll notice is you have a great view of the shock. It happens to be right behind the vent. They are functional now we have the mustang II suspension. Nothings in the way so it was pretty easy. And I'm always surprised at how much stuff gets in those little holes
When I had my fiberglass hood painted, I had the inserts cut out and a stainless steel mesh put in the hole. Not really for functionality, more for looks. It looks a lot better than leaving them closed. For what its worth I have gotten caught in a few downpours since then and the rain hasn't had any affect. Don't know if I have pics or not, I will look for some
