I got started on trying to repair the cracked spoiler & broken studies this week.

I used jb plastic weld to repair the crack & spot ribbit holes, although fiberglass would of done the job.

I used a carriage bolt & a piece of 1/2" water pipe to replace the missing stud and fibergassed it in. I used a long piece of 1/2" water pipe layed in beside the other studs to help me align the homemade stud I'm fiberglassing in. I used jb weld to fill up the homemade stud to bond the carriage bolt in the water pipe. It still needs more but I ran out.

The other stud that was broken I grinded it down just enough to get vise grips on it to remove it, Then I cut the head off of a carriage bolt and apply J-B Weld to the threads and screwed it in.

It's just a test fit its not bolted down in the pichure.

Its amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it, and a littler bit of JB Weld and fiberglass all you needed to do was find a way to use some duct tape on the repair and you would earn a Macgyver award.

Nice save. So many of these have issues after all this time.

I wanted to add that someone on the board here suggested panel adhesive as a very good material to us to repair spoilers and Comet GT scoops. These are made of some hybrid material that isn't quite like typical fiberglass.

I have a GT scoop here that is patiently waiting for me to get my act together and fix it.

Yea i knew it wasn't exactly fiberglass that's why I tried the J-B plastic weld but if I had to do it over again I'd saved the money & just used the fiberglass.

They are made of SMC...Sheet Molded Compound. Similar to fiberglass but it is different. There are products made specifically for repairing SMC.

CaptainComet posted this several years back:

    "Finding links on this SMC

Doing searches on this stuff ...

Interesting links that other folks here may find useful if they need to repair a Comet GT scoop. I take it that Grabber spoiler center sections are made the same way.

This one covers a lot of other materials too, so you have to focus on the SMCstuff....
