Grabber Spoilers from Unlimited Products

darn I didn't know that. We had test fit them on my Grabber and they fit so well. I haven't spoken to Derek in a long time.. I better keep in touch better.

 

OK, the spoiler from Unlimited Products arrived today and there is certainly going to be some work involved. Haven't had a chance to "dry fit" it yet since my car is in a show in Little Rock through this Sunday.

There's definitely some sanding and final prep that will be needed (expected). Some imperfections in the gel coat but not anything that can't be overcome with some sanding and minor filling.

The quarter panel extensions look pretty decent. There's probably some "squaring up" that will be required however to get the top of the piece to be nice and vertical to (hopefully) match up with the deck spoiler. It will be interesting to see how much squaring it off on the bottom is going to affect how it matches up where it sits on the lower piece.

It appears they did a decent job of putting the "flair" into the part of the spoiler that mates with the deck lid. Not having an actual grabber spoiler to compare it to has me wondering about the bow evident along the long edges. Now that I think about it I can't remember if the top of our deck lids are flat or curved. If they're curved it will be interesting to see how it matches up.

The back of the spoiler is nice and flat but there is a definite curve along the bottom edge. Once again, I can't remember if that curve is found on our cars or not and how much "forgiveness" I can gain by using the chrome edge pieces I have on my car.

Stay tuned-----once I get the car back home and start dinking with it we all will know more and it will be based on objective reporting.

I would really like to give this company a chance to improve their product line through some constructive feedback so we might have access to a fairly priced product that works. If they can provide something with good fitment that gets me over 90% of the way there, I'm more than willing to take it the rest of the way with the final touches.

I also plan on sending them a link to the thread once it is close to completion and the issues are brought out. It's up to them at that point to act on it or not.

True Grabber spoilers are getting harder and harder to come by and the prices (when one is found) are starting to reflect that. (Remember when you could get a really nice deluxe gas cap for $30?)

From the pictures.....it looks very, very rough to me. Might be fine for a drag car or daily driver, but the descriminating Maverick person might not be happy. I will be curious how this all works out.

How does the spoiler bolt down? Looks like a lot of smoothing and shaping work to be done.

 

I agree, you see that 4th picture? I wouldnt put that on my car...if you sand it down youre liable to hit pitted fiberglass

Looks like a cheap fiberglass job with some bondo slopped on it.

 

I had one of these a couple of years ago and it was the biggest piece of **** I had ever seen. I called them and they were total ass wipes to deal with. I literally threw the thing in the garbage. How they are still in business, I'll never know. THEY SUCK! PERIOD!

 

The discriminating Maverick owner will probably be willing to spend $300 for a spoiler. This $100 gamble is to see if there's a product out there the rest of us can justify.

 

If your good with glass then at least you have something to start with if it isn't a great fit. The finished product is what matters. I have seen some factory ones go for good money that needed work also. IF your having to spend hrs and hrs fixing this new one, then MAYBE it isn't worth it. I guess it's a matter of how much time you want to put into it also.
You aparently went into this knowing that you might have to work on it and was willing to. Now we'll see how much time and how it turns out. I for one apprecieate what your doing to show us your findings.
Even at $300, a new perfect spoiler is not available. What else do we have to choose from? Forge forward and let's see what happens.

 

I'm definitely interested to see how this turns out. I can't see a single clean straight edge on that thing. Certainly not a product I would put my name on.

X2 it is going to be hard to attach to the trunk and even harder to get a bolt to clue to the fiberglass hope everything works out for you

 

Lets approach this as a technical thread and not a sound off.

While you can't see it clearly in the photos, there are two bolts glassed in to the deck lid spoiler section. It appears they have embedded a metal piece the length of the spoiler that has been tapped to accept these bolts.

Bluegene made some key statements too. (Thanks for your level-headed thinking) I was quoted some prices near $300 on original spoilers and was told "they needed work". I went into this as a test case to be able to provide some qualitative information and particular design issues. Someone who's good with fiberglass and modifications doesn't have much to go on when all you have is "Piece of ****; Crap; Sucks, etc... Provide us with the particulars and I'll value your input much more.

I also had to go back more than a couple of years to find any discussion on their issues. Hoping that things might have changed with ownership, management or policy had me roll the dice and try. As mentioned previously, Maverick Man doesn't do them anymore so we're down to buying from members' inventory, Craigslist or Ebay.
