I recently ordered a new Grant steering wheel to replace the rotten stock piece. I used what I believe is the right installation kit (#3249), but I'm having a problem with the horn contacts. Both of the spring pins touch the same copper disk in the Grant hub, since the little divider in the new hub is too far from the center. I tried emailing Grant's customer service, but I'm getting crickets. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Could it be that I got a flawed hub from their notoriously bad QC, or is this a consistent problem for Mavericks in particular?

That's why I hate aftermarket steering wheels, never had one where the horn worker properly.

is this a consistent problem for Mavericks in particular?

... seems the horn setup on Maverick era Fords' is a consistent problem. My '74 Mav is on it's second #3249 adapter after first one had the divided disc solder terminal directly hitting the spring loaded pin on the column and breaking off. The latest kit corrected the solder location on the disc but the Grant 3249 appears to have continued design problems matching up with the Maverick OEM contact pins.

I did saw off the 'extra button' on the column but still possible the horn will honk on its own after some use...

... still I blame Ford for feeding B+ right through horn actuator instead of simply needing to ground horn lead as is standard practice on most cars..

    hav fun - (honk!)

As posted, stay away from the aftermarket steering wheels. The button always pops out.

I have a pretty nice original wheel off a 75 Comet. I haven't push to sell it.
