My recipe would look like this........

    306
    10.5 to 1
    total seal piston rings
    fresh bearings
    28 0z balance
gt-40 heads milled, ported, valve job by local porter
    screw in studs for rockers
    roller rockers
    guide plates
    stud girdle
    beehive springs
custom hydraulic cam or solid roller if your wallet can afford it
    aluminum flywheel
    electric water pump
    electric fan
    manual steering
a/c power steering and smog delete
    aluminum pullies
    stealth high rise intake
    holley 650dp carb
    t-5 transmission
    aluminum driveshaft
    4.11 gears
    electronic ignition with 2 step
    line lock
    caltracs
    4 cyl fox front springs
    roller spring perches
adjustable strange shocks all the way around
    chassis stiffening
    slicks
    2850#'s with driver

I would say thats a 300rwhp dyno pull and 11 sec timeslip combo with a good tuner and driver. J

    Just my opinion :)

Thanks! I think scott made 300whp with his setup. On unported heads. The block i have is a 93HO with only 40k miles. It doesnt look like it needs a bore at all. I havent checked the deck because i dont have a machinists straightedge, but ill be borrowing one soon. So would 28oz work better? I can go with any since i have a 75 302 crank also. I think the 5.0 rods are better, i read somewhere that they changed them around 72 then back to the old design in 88. I can also get a set of boss lenght rods for pretty cheap, but they end up being a ratio 1.77 versus 1.69 with standard rods. Ive heard that 1.62 is a good ratio to shoot for for an engine that will rev more, and vice versa a long rod will make more torque. But the price of getting pistons for the longer rods throw my budget away, so its not even an option anymore.

What ever you do I would try and keep a budget in effect, way to easy to spend too much money on these setups that you will never be able to sell for half of what you got into them.

Nature of the beast using stock parts to go fast.

Thats my thinking. I also dont want to spend more than what a price of aftermarket heads cost. That would defeat the purpose of saving the initial money on stock heads. That and they wont perform like a set of trick flows or AFRs.

I got 265 at the wheels (350-ish at flywheel?) with only $800 worth of engine. Unported GT40s, only knocked out the smog bump.

My specs are below, but more details are in here... http://scooper77515.fordmaverick.net/specsheet.htm

It is a fun drive, even with a tired old c4.

I scored parts cheap and traded. Not your typical build. Scored fresh rebuilt 308 for $200. $300 for heads. Free cam roller and lifter setup. Traded for many other parts. Recycled the rest.

For some reason I was thinking that you loose 20hp just to the transmission. When its actually 20 percent. Sometimes i dont think straight. I better lower my goal lol

Probably low twelves, provided you get the car to hook. This sounds like it could be fun. GT-40's are easy to get a hold of too. This sort of thing is right up my alley.:thumbs2:
