Because sooner or later it will be a full Comet front end. To me the Comet front end gives the illusion of the car being longer, and I like that. Now if I could only figgure out an easyer way to get the Comet tail lights to fit without replaceing the tail light panel. I admit it, I like Comets better then Mavericks, but you could say I'm a little biased after growing up around 2 Comets and not knowing what Maverick was. When I was 12 a guy moved in down the street with a 4 door Maverick (that is now mine also) and I told my dad "look, someone put Pinto tail lights in that Comet!"
How about putting in some bobcat tailights to go with your comet front,i'd be mercury front & rear, just a bit different.
I don't want to be a curmudgeon, but that explanation sounds like a complete load of crap..LOL! New car manufacturers by and large don't run out of parts, and if something does happen to hold up production, they sure don't have a yard sale with what is half built. Man, that's a good one.
The guy who said that is very well in the know. He buys these parts directly from Ford... I would imagine someone at Ford told him that. My dad is a head manager at a place that does steel stamping for Honda, Toyota, Kawasaki and all kinds of places. Those manufacturers run short on parts all the time... Ford apparently is in a world of hurt right now. The guy said they dumped a ton of money into these Mustangs and are trying to recooperate some costs.
I can vouch for large production companies running out of parts on a regular basis. I worked at Caterpillar for 5 years and we ran out of at least 1 part on a weekly basis. We never had any CAT part yard sales though... Jamie, the stock wheels on your dads GT are my fave Stang wheels of all time! I cant believe he would want to swap them out!!
Um, there is a three month waiting list for GT's and I am supposed to believe Ford is having a yard sale? The parts they are waiting for are never coming in so they are scrapping the whole program? Sorry, I ain't buying it....
Hey man, don't get your panties in to much of a wad over it, geez. I'm just telling you what the dude told us. I could honestly give a crap less about it. Stockhatch, check out the pic below. I liked the old wheels on it to, but the new ones are just awesome. We had to use 3/8's spacers on the back and 7/16 spacers on the front to make them fit the Mustang right. We have 2 more sets of those old style wheels in the garage. The rear spacers were on my dad's Comet when he got it back in '84. He took them off and hung them on the wall in the garage when he tubbed the car in '93 and they had been there ever since till yesterday when we used them on the Mustang. I may have to drive it to school tomarrow to show everyone the new rims.
I done told you, I'm buying it from you when I turn 18 and can get a job. You were right there when me and dad were talking about it the other day and you said you wanted one that was in better shape. And like dad said, the car would be mine if I decided to charge for all the work I've done.
Those Miles boys. I tell ya. They live in the same house, probably the same hallway, and they communicate via the 'puter. Boy, did my sister and I miss out on today's modern technology. We actually had to talk to each other.
