No, OEM plugs. I think the sealant mey have clogged something else up. But where do I start checking? Runs cool in the morning (4:30 AM -- only 13 miles -- all freeway). Runs hot on the way back home at 5:00 PM in medium traffic with the A/C on. With the A/C off it runs a little cooler, of course, but its still hot.

Have you checked the operation of your fan?
    Will it overheat idling?

The fan seems to be working fine. It does get hotter when stopped in traffic.

Partly airflow, partly overall conditions... Do you have a gauge with temp numbers or just a stock gauge? You may need a new gauge to be sure what temp it is really running. On another car I have, the dash gauge reads 200, but a aftermarket gauge stuck in the radiator shows 160...

I hate heating issues...good luck on it

    3.8 Heads

    Alan

The factory 3.8 head gaskets were made by seal pro in Weatherford, Tx. and if someone did not change and flush the cooling system every 2 years the coolant would eat up the gaskets.
Ford does not use that company any longer.
If the heads have not been overheated then new gaskets usually fix the problem.

You have an iron block with alloy heads, so you have dissimilar metal corrosion. This has always been a problem with German electrical systems because they are to hardheaded to change.

Take a digital voltmeter and check your radiator voltage. This will tell you how much electrolysis you have in your cooling system. You should not read over 1 volt.

I have some great sealant called STOP-IT. if you sent me a pm with your address I will give you a bottle. It usually works!

Texasjack. I already traded it in. I attached the pics. of the 06 Jeep Commander I got Sat. 2WD 5.7 HEMI. And for stock, this thing impressed me alot. The Mustang had more Grimlens than the head gaskets....WAY more. Besides, I feel safer with the Wife and kids in it anyway. Thanks again for the offer though. It's guys like you that make this community/forum so GREAT.

    Head problems

    Alan

Good on you. the Jeep is a nice unit!!!!

The 318 has been aroung since the early 60s.

Did you turn the Mustang in through the Texas emission program?

I was not aware of this program. The engine is not a 318, It is a 5.7 HEMI. I'll have to check on the CID for size. I'm still new to the MOPAR scene. Thanks again. On the sealant, I have also heard good things about Steel-Seal.
