Anytime you tighten a bolt it stretches some.....to spec or otherwise..... its how they work.....they are supposed to stretch. if you over tighten they will not hold their torque spec.......also bolts have a finite lifetime.....that is why good machinist checks for bolt stretch in the event he is reusing bolts.....such as rod or main bolts.......
