My friend who's not a maverick guy sent me this link on E-bay https://www.ebay.com/itm/392463625814?ul_noapp=true#vi-ilComp Picture of 72 Maverick Grabber and all. I called and they said these are not compatible with Mavericks hence why I come here.
I found Headman 88400 shorty's. Guy at Headman said they won't clear the column shift C4. A lot of headers are almost what I paid for the engine. Think I'm Stuck with the stock manifolds.
Ok on won't clear column shifts; I do have floor shift. Ceramic coated ones ain't cheap; none coated reasonable cost, and you haven't factored cost of custom muff shop expense. Stock header work well on stock motor. My car came w/ long tubes so I replace w/ aftermarket headers.
My problem is my stock manifolds are emissions manifolds. I don't mind non ceramic or standard headers as I don't drive it in bad weather anyway so I don't think it will be too much of a problem. Problem is seems no one makes a column shift shorty header that bolts to factory exhaust locations and I don't want to cut up a new exhaust system. You'd think with as much as Mavericks are modified this product would be a little more out there.
Short answer not enough demand. There are probably a larger number of Fox 5.0 Stangs in Columbus than Mavericks in all the US combined.
Well even though I take that as a figure of speech there is some truth to it. There are a few Mavericks around but you don't see very many Fox bodies either, not in Columbus and the ones you do see are usually rusted out and not 5.0s. As a Fox Body owner and former owner of 3 others, I see where you're coming from. This is my 87 with 45K original on her. like all good fords, keep the bitch floored!
you could get a set of non California compliance stock manifolds and get the same results, lot less problems.
That was pretty much what I was going for. I prefer headers for better flow and to a lesser extent sound but still, as many column shift v8 C4 mavericks are out there and no one has a shorty header?
Drop bracket not required on any shorty header Get the Doug Thorley headers. They are a shorty. I have them on my car. Easy to install. Will work with a column shift. Hedman shorties will work with a column shift as well. Somewhere on here is an article I wrote about the Hedman shorties. My Doug Thorley header install: http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/doug-thorley-headers-installed.32902/
Thanks Craig. I found Headman 88400 shorty's and those should work? I really like the doug thorleys but on a 302 with just a carb and intake they are a bit pricey. Separate topic, when I bought that hood off of you around 12 or so years ago you were fooling with some headers and moving the engine around, was that when you were modifying the Thorley headers from your article? I remember them fighting you a bit and you seemed to have a devil of a time because of those heads. Just curious.
If it was the orange car then it was the Doug Thorley headers. The only problem I had with them was the spark plug angle of the aftermarket heads. Install was pretty simple typical of any header install.
If your transmission has this "ear" you'll probably have to chop it off. A good exhaust shop can maybe work around it, I took the more direct approach.
