    Do you think that'll cause issues down the line? Was there some sort of dampner between the two pieces?

    Agreed...

    One would think the bolts that hold front section would pass through the inner, I guess not...

    Naah it's supposed to be solid...

    my thought is...how is this thing staying together and not flying apart?
    if it was mine it would be buried in the radiator by now...:coco:

    Look at the video Frank, a picture or in this case video, is worth a 1000 words... The rearward sheathes(what Ford calls belt grooves), are pressed then spot welded onto front pulley... When loose there is no chance they are going anywhere, are trapped between front groove and timing cover...

    In the '65-'72 Master parts catalog pulleys for '69-'72 250, 170 & 200 are all listed as having double sheathes... One pictured has three, so apparently something changed in the belt dress between '72 & '73...

    then chances are he will need a # off the old pulley...:yup:

    welcome from Portland, OR. Nice car. Lots of 302 swap info around here....if you want to put headers on it the list of considerations grows a bit longer. At least you get to start with a car that is in one piece, which is helpful in my opinion.

    Got it taken apart finally last night (I've been working 80 hours a week & finally got sent home early)

    So apparently the front groove / pulley is bolted to the harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer has an 'outer ring' that has 2 belt grooves. Whatever material that used to join the two is gone and there is a gap between the two.

    I'd like to do the quick / cheap fix and just weld it to get the car up and running again for a while but I'm sure that isn't great for the motor bc that whole assemble was balanced and had some kind of dampening material in it at one point.

    At the same time I can't bring myself to spend the $180 I'm seeing for the part online when I plan on scrapping this motor in less than a year.

    Blahhh...
