I'm embarrassed, but yes. It works great. No water at all. It's actual duct tape (instead of duck brand, that stuff is crap, won't hold up to UV or heat, or even water really). I absolutely had to do something to stop the water. It was better than doing nothing
As of now all it needs is a fuel tank. I thought about just putting in a race fuel cell. I can get one that's a gallon short of stock fuel capacity and would be around the same price as a reproduction tank for a mustang. And I need to replace the radiator hoses and the vacuum lines I'm sure. Oh and a couple brake hoses.
I just want the engine, transmission, brakes, and lights to work. I don't care if it looks rough or isn't comfortable.
Would the stock fuel pump work with a fuel cell? The only reason I really wanna go with a fuel cell is this... The person that had it before had apparently had some one braze a leak and line the tank. They said it didn't fix the leak. It's not even bolted down. I plan on just sealing around the tank and bolting it down and putting a fuel cell in.
The trunk lid doesn't appear to have any seal what-so-ever. Is that the case? My friend, are you sure this project is going to be worth the time and money?
It does have the seal on there. It's just separated at the bottom. Luckily I don't have water coming in there.
Hello from south Alabama! Really great folks on this forum, though I haven't met them personally, far and away the best bunch... Like said before, that cowl area is a booger to fix correctly... Knowing what I know after putting metal in the cowl in my 72,closing off the vent panel would be a "must do" before paint... At least you have a front bumper and windshield, dash pad,and I take it that it runs... Far ahead of what I started with... Read and ask questions, this is a great place for that...
Actually I don't know if it will run. Gas tank is bad. I was gonna try to get it running by rigging up a fuel supply of some sort, safely of course. It'll be stationary, so I don't have to worry about attaching it to anything. There's a pretty long line coming from the pump that I think I'll be able to use.
Is there a checklist of things I need to go by before I try to get gas to this motor. It's not locked up.
I generally check fluids, get a hot battery, see if it will crank over, pull the coil wire from the cap and get it about 3/8 from the engine block or a good ground and check spark. If spark go to the fuel supply,Check for rust or anything obviously wrong, then take off the breather and give it a little gas in the carburetor, maybe couple of tablespoons or so... Have someone start it for you,if it hits but quits, may need another drink till it picks up fuel and fills the carburetor bowl... You have to have fuel, compression and a spark at the right time... A friend that's done it before helps immensely,a manual with a troubleshooting chart is good tool...
