Hello Maverick/Comet Forum. My car is a rust-free 1973 Ford Maverick four-door 302. It’s first owner covered 70,000 careful miles from 1973 to 1996. After a long garage nap, the car was purchased last year by a couple who performed the initial awakening of treatment of fresh gas, brake bleeding, oil change, tune up and tires. They sold it to me. My objective is to keep this car looking original, while upgrading key systems to make the car reliable enough for road trips and less terrifying to drive in traffic. Disk brakes up front will be the first major project. Meanwhile, I’m focused on staunching the leaks of most of fluids (ATF, oil, coolant, PS fluid). Thanks to members of the forum for many helpful tips so far. Most of my mechanical experience is with modern, computer-controlled cars, so working on this marvel of analogue engineering is going to be enlightening. I hope to be able to share and contribute what I learn.

Welcome from Portland, OR. The internet is a wonderful thing, and you can upgrade your car with stuff scattered across decades of Ford lands. Rock auto has a ton of parts. There are specialty places too, and there are folks around here that know very close to EVERYTHING.....welcome!

may I ask...Why a four-door? the reason I ask is there are very few reasons to invest/own one.
    0$ return on $$ spent...JMO

I agree the 2-door is easier on the eyes (my '72 Comet I owned in the late '80s was a two-door). I spent months looking for the proverbial "cleanest car I could afford" as the start of a vintage project. I looked at a lot of cars, mostly Fords and Mercurys. The runner up was a 1968 Cougar with a lot more wrong and for a lot more money. This thing is amazingly clean. Even the original A/C works. While not perfect, it doesn't even have door dings. In spite of the extra doors and the beige color I'm going to embrace the nerdy weirdness of this car and roll with it.

I like your frame of mind! I see being different a positive move. I would buy a nice 4 door B4 a rust bucket 2 door. These cars are not worth a lot of money; if looking for gud return on investment buy something else.

Same could be said for a $30K Maverick that has a Chevy motor and needs paint..

I can see why after owning a Comet that you would want to upgrade to a four door Maverick...:thumbs2:
