I've been on this sight several times before, but not as a member. Looks like a good source for information, so I figured before I try to pick anybody's brain for the info I need now, I'd go ahead and sign up as a member. Bought a '74 Comet several years back that was pretty much totaled. Actually I bought it for the 8" rear end to use in my 23 t-bucket. It's been laying around waiting for me to get to the point in my build where it was time to rebuild it and get it ready to go under the T. I have narrowed it to center the housing under the chassis, bought new axles, a differential rebuild kit and new axle bearings and seals. My problem is that the seals that the parts house sold me don't fit the housing. According to all the parts look-up sites I've been to they are the right number for this rear end, but the O.D. of the seal is 2-1/4" diam. and the housing measures 2-5/16" diam. Did they make two different housings with different size seals? I don't know if it matters or not, but this Comet had 5 lug rear axles. Guys at my local bearing/seal distributor can't even find a seal with a 2-5/16" diam. Local Ford parts guys don't have a clue on anything they can't look up on there computers, so I figured I'd come here and ask the people who might know. If anyone can clue me in as to what seals I need to get, I would be very appreciative. Thanks
from Atlantic Canada! I provided the answer to your question in your other thread... Use Timken Part Number 9569S. I had the same issues you are describing with my 5-lug swap a month or so ago. Good Luck!
I was in Waynesville just last Wed & Thur, uhhh oh wait, that was NC... It's 25mi or so west of Asheville, Check out Clyde's Restaurant if you are ever there, great country cookin'...
Hi Frank. Thanks for the "welcome". Was just in Macon about two weeks ago. Was visiting some old deer hunting buddies out in Jones County, in the Upper River Road area. Love it down there!!
