Got the front done last night, and spend most of today cleaning it up some. I still have to run new brake hoses in the front, and get the MC and proportioning valve connected to the hard lines. I cut 1 1/4 coil out of the front coils, and I'll get a 2" lowering block for the rear. I got the MC bolted up and it looks good in there. I screwed up and cut too much off the old pedal rod, so I have to buy a new one to modify, or hit the JY. All in all it went pretty easy. I also changed out the upper and lower ball joints. I'll get everything all greased up when I finish the rears, I'll probably start on that Thursday night. More to come
I got the cam and lifters in last night, moving onto the double roller timing set and front cover, then drilling the steam holes for the heads and installing them this weekend. I'll get more pick up this weekend.
Well I did get the cam and lifters in the other day, but went single roller instead, since I already had a brand new set here that I forgot I bought. Still all good. I got another big item crossed off the list this weekend as well. Yep rear Disc brakes!!!! Now I have disc all the way round, I'm pretty stoked about this, as you can tell. I'm still yet to order cross drilled and slotted rotors for the setup, but for now these will do, as I don't even have a engine in the car yet. I also got all new shocks, and managed to get the rears installed this weekend since I was under there anyway. I'm trying to get all this stuff out the way first, then move to the engine, then move to interior and paint. I honestly wanted to keep the parking brake off the rear setup, but it was a no go. So I'll have to figure something else out for that when the time comes. I live in a really flat area anyway, and honestly can't remember the last time I've had to even use a parking brake so maybe I won't even deal with it. Next week I'll be tackling all the brake plumbing, and front shock install. and make a little more progress on assembling the engine. I'll post pics of course. Later
Nice!! i have the same setup on my red Mav in Brazil i also left the parking brake alone since we don't have car inspections that often but sometimes i wished i had parking brakes but anyways don't you have to get your car inspected there every year?
A little more progress Got the oil pan, timing cover, and HEI distributor installed tonite. My daughter even decided to come out and help a little It was a good nite!
What an outstanding "quick documentary" of a rebuild process!! You work very, very fast, I can only hope to get something like this together in a short time. You should be proud of your efforts!! There are many here who are excited to see the fast progress, including myself. Thanks for sharing it! Chris
Wow thanks man!! Awesome compliment. I guess I haven't really sat back and looked at it in that light. I wanted to document my progress for everyone to see, and to serve as a momento to myself for my later years. After having Kendall (my daughter) everyone I know said I wouldn't be able to do something like this, and for a little while I thought they were right. I've been able to sell a lot of stuff on ebay from past projects (vw's, jeepin, quads, etc...) and pretty much fund this maverick project. I had to learn to focus on just one thing and see it through, instead of 1/2ass'n a bunch of things at the same time. Again thanks for the compliment, and I'll keep the work and pics comin. I think I'm gonna tackle drilling the steam holes in the block for the new heads, and get them installed in the next couple days.
great!!! i see your beautiful daughter doing the quality control part, inspecting and demanding more efforts yep.. been there done that on mine.. i like your oil cooler it's so nice to work on a clean fresh painted engine installing new parts but anyways congrats!!!! good job!!
Thanks Chirt. I wish I had your shop space to work in. When I push mine into the garage for the weekend to work, I always dread Sunday night since I have to push it back to the carport and recover it. But thats part of my "fun"
