ive been using my smart phone to help me build and fix cars for a few years now. the first app i found useful was level/angle app called iHandy Level tremec has released a zpp called tremec driveline angle finder that works really well. it takes away the confusion of figuring out pinoin / drive train angles. i use a simple app called odometer+ to calibrate electric speedos that requre driving a measured mile or 2 to accurately set the speedo. i use an app called speedometer to check the accuracy of speedos. i use an app called convert units to do exactly that. its very helpful. what apps have the rest of you found useful for working on our cars with?
GPS Speedo for speed. Clinometer for pinion angle. aDyno for 0-60, 1/8, and 1/4 ETs and speeds (still a little buggy, but cool when it works.) I had one on my last phone that measured dB of sound, which I used to compare muffler volume, and that damned drone I have/had!
Not for my maverick but I have an app called BlueDriver. I had to buy a tool small compact tool that plugs into the OBD port of my car and it communicates with the phone app. It will scan for codes and read every sensor in your car. It also generates a report which you can email that includes your vin number and all of the codes. It's an extremely handy app. You can download the app free but you have to buy the tool that plugs in.
There's an app my buddy showed me that's called Garage Buddy. I only have the free version but it does lots of cool stuff like calculators for gearing, cubic inch displacement, tire size, and compression ratio. It also has charts for drill bit and tap sizing and wire and metal gauge thickness.
I am going to have to check some of these out..... I have only had a phone capable of using apps for a short time now.....
I use the spedo app since my speedometer does not work at all. I have the conversion app, love it. I also have a scientific calculator i use a lot. Thats about it that would be car related. Everything else is tech related.
