Living in Hawaii, defrosting a window maybe happens once or twice a year. lowest temp we get here is high 50's and thats maybe 1 week in Jan or Feb. One perk of living in Hawaii lol
thanks for the welcome! i still gotta check in for original equiptment, i am going to be ordering a marti report once i get the funds for the elite. i have an elite marti for all the classic fords ive owned. next post coming with vin and all that.
hey guys. I took a few pictures of some of the things we have been talking about. I am not really knowledgeable in Ford Mavs, as this is my first one. Wanted to share with you guys to maybe give me a little insight on what I have my hands on here. Also got some pictures of the Canada dealership it was sold at and the interior switches. VIN: 3X91L297115 Body: 62A Color: 5L Trim: BT Trans: W Axle: 3 DSO: B2
Well it was most assuredly built and sold new in Canada... B2 is the ordering district that's apparently in Quebec... It's a loooong way from home... Rust free Canadian vehicles are rare, one in Hawaii is almost unheard of(at least till now)... Unless it's been replaced, the heater control panel has no indication that car originally had A/C... If you removed A/C components, was most likely a add on unit... The VIN ID 3 -- 1973 X -- St Thomas Assembly 91 -- Std 2dr Maverick L -- 250 6cyl engine Last six are the order sequence, meaning it was 197115th order to be taken at St Thomas for 1973(numbering start at 100001) Remaining digits 62A - base 2dr Unfortunately I don't have codes for 1973 Color & Trim - Someone with '73 Shop Manual can check ID W -- C4 Transmission 3 -- 2.79 rear axle ratio... That would suggest it was not ordered with A/C, usually those have 3.00 ratio B2 - Eastern Canada Ordering District..
No kidding. This car has been a score from the start! Original owners shipped it from Canada to Hawaii in the 80's and it has always been garaged kept (according to the family). The original owners past away in 2015 and nobody in their family wanted the car. The car ended up going to auction and a flipper bought it just to sell and make some money on it. I bought it from the flipper for $3500. Had the car for about a year, but the transmission broke. At the time I did not know how to repair cars in that much detail so I ended up selling it to a guy here that has a mechanics shop that specializes in classic cars. Luckily I broke even and was able to sell it to him for the same $3500 I bought it for. He did most of the things that I stated in the original post (eg: headers, front knuckles, coil overs, etc.). April of last year, he had to sell the car. I ended up seeing it on Craigslist and realized that was my old Mav. I got so excited, I really didn't want to sell the car in the first place so the chance to get it back was a no brainier. I ended up getting the car back for $6,000...which is a steal for the amount of modifications and work he put into the car while he had it!!! I am not sure about the AC but the car does have the vents built into the dash, all the hoses, condenser, cooler, etc that would come with an AC. I guess we will find out when I get the Marti Report. P.S. thank you for the info on the VIN and codes, that is much appreciated
Very clean car. Anybody else notice the rear defogger? Pretty uncommon option, but shows that Canadian heritage once more.
hey guys. i have big plans to start modifying my car. im coming up with a part 1 list of things to get done. if anyone is knowledgeable in 250 straight 6 motors I would be very interested in talking to you about some motor plans I have for the car. thanks in advance
