Blackdog you got a good attitude. All that matters is that you like it. They dont realize how easy it is to work on these cars and modify them. I get camaro and cougar alot. I understand cougar because of my tail lights. I cant go 5 minutes in the car with at least a thumbs up. These are rare gems and you can do so much to them. People dont expect to see our cars which makes it cool (at least in Michigan) most of them are rusted out at the junk yards.
I had to tell one guy at school it was a maverick 3 times. it was like a habit for him to say amc javelin... i've never had camaro or nova or chevelle, but most of the people at school probably couldn't tell them apart. hardly any car buffs for the old cars. all they care about is the "tuners" that everyones trying to make. but they seem to change their minds when they see my pictures. i actually like having to tell people what it is over and over. it makes me feel good i've got sometihing special, and not the camaro or mustang everyones seen and wants. looks cooler and a helluva lot cheaper... Gotta love Mavericks and Comets. (and 2-door Ranchwagons they're different too.) I don't think anyone's guessed it right the first time other than Mathis and he has one of his own is why. even Mr. Pendley had to ask what it was.
I was sitting at a stop light one day, some old guy pull's up along side in his lil ford courier and say's BOY YOU GOT SOME NERVE BUILDIN A MAVERICK LIKE THAT, i said i know sir.he say's back, WELL OK, just drives off, funny as hell!!
Would he rather you let it sit in a field and let it rot? I love the fact that someone, anyone, does something to a Maverick or Comet rather than letting them out and out just die.
i hear nova a lot... one of my neighbors was on his bus and some kid said " oh look at that CAMARO!" as they drove past my house
When I had my Comet, everyone always called it a damn maverick.... Im not sure why, but it offended me! lol j/k I did mention Comet once at work and a lady came running over to see pictures, then was like "that doesnt look like my dads comet" I told her it was a 72, she said oh my dads was the old square late 60s body style. She liked the car, but wasnt what she was looking for
