Good stuff. Maybe a can have a 400hp streetable car. I have got to do something with my little 302 like STOKER. I love to read this stuff.

Well I'm in awe to say the least, threads like this provide a wealth of invaluable information, and this is not "mock up" stuff...you know it works, it just doesn't get any better than that.
That said I humbly submit the specs on my build.

302 block punched 30 over, block was vatted, bored, shotpeened, honed and magnafluxed.
Eagle 4340 forged crank internally balanced, neutral harmonic balancer and flywheel
Eagle 4340 h beam connecting rods to Ross domed pistons, clevite bearings
Comp Cam 224/224 @0.50 lift duration, GVL 500/500
Canfield heads 192 cc intake runners, chambers milled to 60cc, 10.75 to 1 compression
Victor jr. intake, hooker 6901 comp headers, all ports milled to match
Holley ProSystems 780 cfm carb custom matched to setup
    Custom made 4500 stall converter
C-4 tranny, shift kit, manual valve body, deep sump TCI pan to 9" rear end, Moser locker and 3.55 gears
Milodon deep sump 8 qt. oil pan and melling high volume pump.
Stock radiator, 2800 cfm pull through fan with thermostat that keeps engine at 180 degrees under any conditions.
    March serpentine pulley setup.
    100 amp alternator
MSD 6al ignition sytem to stock distributor
    Holley red electric fuel pump
Autometer Sport Comp gauges in a Grandmas car interior (yes...I like it like that):D
Build was made to be respectable at the track on a Sunday night and drive to work or cross country on a Monday morning. Cruises at 2900 rpm at 70 mph.
Car currently runs 7.9 consistently and could easily pull mid 7's with a taller gear and proper rear/front suspension (it doesn't hook-up very well)
My sweethaeart is currently having some cosmetic work done to the engine compartment, then its on to the interior and suspension.
As a kid growing up in the 70's I always had an affinity with nice cars, just couldn't afford my own, in my 20's and 30's I worked and raised 6 kids, last year I bought this car and it's been a love affair ever since.
I can honestly say with out the information, encouragement and friendship from the folks on this board and MCCI it probably wouldn't have happened.

Well...the 414 has not been tried before, at least not by me. Last 2 years I've been running a 14.2:1 357w methanol injected. Best times were mid 6.20's and 110 mph. Grenaded it and had to start over--of course most of the regulars on the boards know that. The 414 is similar to the 357: '74 351w block .060" grouted to the middle of the water holes. Scat 9000 4.000" stroke crank, Eagle 6.250" rods (I have some 6.200" Eagle H beams for sale!!), Mahle forged flat-top pistons for about 13:1 compression. I went with a Scat 9000 crank because Forged would have been nearly $1000 plus these cranks are well made and I've run them before in a 393 that made excellent power (and I was NOT easy on it!!) Would like to have more compression, but couldn't find any pop-ups for under $700. BTW those Mahle Pistons are NICE (and light at just a hair over 400g). Victor Jr heads milled slightly but no other mods, just 11 new valves, 2 new pushrods, had to have one head welded as the rocker stud pad broke off. The heads will most likely be the choke point of the motor, but that's good because with the methanol injector it'll make a ton of torque down low. The cam is a Cam Research solid roller....about 270 duration @ .050" and .700" lift or thereabouts. I haven't seen the cam yet so I can't give exact numbers, but it should be real close to that. Other than that, it's a simple build for bracket racing (nothing fancy) and hopefully this season with the grouted block, I might be able to build heat in the motor quicker. Last season, I'd go through about 3-4 gallons of meth to get it warmed up on a cool day. Probably should have either bought or made a Primer system to idle/start on gas, but I was too cheap & lazy at the time. Might do it this year--haven't decided yet. Either way, I have to get the bugs out of it before I put one on as it's real dependent on throttle blade angle. The throttle body flows 1300 cfm and the intake is an unmolested Victor Jr. A super victor might pick up a little HP, but at the expense of low end, and that's the reason I went with a 414 to begin with. I'm hoping for mid-low 1.30's in the 60' and about the same 1/8 ETs...maybe later on if I can gather up some ca$h, I'll work with another motor and heads to achieve the 750 HP mark and see how that works. Then again, maybe not in this car.

I'll keep you guys updated on times, etc. Right now, it's on hold...waiting on parts again. As many motors as I've put together, and the one I didn't want to screw up, I broke a ring on the very first piston I put in, so I'm waiting on a ring. Was I pissed at myself? You betchya!:slap:

    Mavman-
What about a block heater? Any help? A deep cycle battery and a cheap inverter might save you a few gallons per race.
    Just a thought.

Should have thought about that last year! No place for the heater to go in now...block is grouted. Should warm up pretty quick now if I use the lean out.

Thanks though...wish I'd have thought of it before:slap:

I've thought about that many times recently.
Seeing as how I don't own a generator at the time... I was thinking about getting a bit more complicated
I have received a free lawnmower and a free 5 horse motor... Going to make a gas powered battery charger... then was thinking about mounting an inverter on it also so I could charge the battery and keep the block warm at the same time or just one of those seperate....... anyways..... sorry for hijacking

It's alive, it's alive. Just got the 331 buttoned up in the fairmont, fired on the first crank and only had to set the timing. Trying a 2in phenolic spacer under the carb, on the air gap manifold. Will see if that picks up any top end next race day. What a difference in throttle response compared to the 302 I had in it, will have to see what it does under a load????? A few other things to tend to on it and then it will go out and mavmans, maverick will come in to get ready for the 414ci. Am also doing a c4 for another racer and then the mustang will be the last thing on the agenda for next season, to freshen up. So much to do and so little time, but when you hear that engine fire up and is crisp and awesome sounding, it's all worth it.

Does the offer still stand for you to redo a C4 for me?
If so let me know and I'll see if I can get a rebuild kit for it shortly.

Have a Holley 750 with the choke horn removed. Plan on putting on an 830 that I have, to see if it may work better. Betting on the 750 being the better choice with my setup.
