I am not an expert. But being as old as I am I only rewmember the 72 Bear Cats. Since this was a dealer installed option I am sure it could have been installed on a 73 Comet GT. I have saw some red 73's with the gold stripe.

Thank you all for the generous welcomes!!

A little more info on the car. My mother bought this car off of the showroom floor in Rome, GA. She did add the option of the Bear Cat package. I have all of the original paperwork and even the original receipt of sale where my mother paid cash for it.I have the original "Warranty Facts Booklet", the original owner's manual, the "emissions systems warranty and maintenance schedules" that is written at the bottom "Fifth Printing, January 1973", the "Ownercard Warranty Identification Card" that has the original metal serial number plate still on it, and I even have the sales card of the salesperson that sold it to her. His name was T. Wayne Smithson of Warren Lindsey Lincoln Mercury, Inc. The bill of sale was for $3691.95. She bought it on 7/25/73.
She tried to get my dad to let her purchase the red one with the black stripe for him, but he wouldn't do it. He was more of the "hemi" type.
I know this is a rare car and we have so many family memories with it. I would never dream of getting rid of the car, but I would like to find others who have similar ones.

Again, thank you for all of the warm welcomes. And I look forward to possibly meeting some of you here in Georgia! I have been to McDonough often! Home of Summit Racing!! Yeah Buddy!!!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!! I'm honored to join this forum! And I'm so glad that all of acknowledge the Comet's! A lot of people up here argue the fact of Comet's against Maverick's. When in fact...I like'em both!!

Actually we don't argue about the two but we do some fun ribbing every now and then. Would be a little boring here if we didn't have a little fun every now and then. :)

If you have the sales receipt showing BearCat Package then I guess it was available in 1973. Good to know ... Thanks ...

    Where exactly are you located?

Welcome to the Madness of Old Cars from south of the border!

Bearcats are indeed rare cars and to have one that was purchased originally by a family member is double rare. Congratulations on keeping it in the family.

Yes, Ga Grabber 73, I actually am from around Fairmount! I was born in Jasper, Ga and raised in Ranger, Ga...just north of Fairmount! I used to drive the Comet when I was 16 to school in Calhoun. Mom wouldn't let me drive it too much, though! lol! She was afraid I would wreck it! The pipe covers are 65" on the metal part and the rubber front piece is about 7 inches long. The rubber front pieces are the main things that I need! The have deteriorated really bad on mine! And please, any info on the sidewinder covers...let me know! I thank you bunches!!

dmhines...the sales receipt doesn't show anything on it about the Bear Cat package. It only show that it was a "Cash sale". It doesn't show any of the extra options that were on the car. But, it is a true Bear Cat! I have pictures of the car 10 days after my mom bought it and I even have the cancelled check from where she paid for it in full. I don't understand why it doesn't show the options on it, though. She had the "window sticker", but she's not sure where she put it. But, she is looking for it! It was bought in Rome, Ga at Warren Lindsey Ford Lincoln Mercury.

If anyone knows how I can go about getting any more information from the dealer (since they went out of business), please let me know. I didn't know if there was some kind of archive that Ford has or how to go about getting this information.
