There was a chain of four local u-pull-it salvage yards that used to run a promotion each holiday weekend ... "$30 All You Could Carry". You had to pick up your entire load and carry it for 30 feet, and whatever you got cost just $30 plus core charges. You could have helpers load you up and unload you, but you had to do the 30 feet all by yourself.

Saw some pretty awesome carries too... a really smallish guy had a whole pickup bed loaded on his back ... $30. Many other stupidly dangerous loads, too. I carried over 350 lbs a couple of times, but my buddy was easily over 500 lbs one trip... it took three of us to put that load on him. He'll never try that again ... ;) . He should have carried that Jeep transfer case as it's own load.... greedy ... :naughty:

"Hidden Treasures" ... he and I used to "pre-run" a couple of the yards each time we could do this. We would usually go out on Wed or Thurs before the big weekend. If we found something we wanted, we would pull the item, and then stash them in entirely different cars. Since I was after Ford items, most of my stuff got hidden in cars in the GM section. Got a set of four wheels? ... they better go in four different cars ... don't want anyone else grabbing a matched pair.

Then, all we would have to do on Saturday, in the midst of everyone scrambling around trying to get what they could, was to go around and collect what we already unbolted. This required the "Treasure Map" ... sometimes if you had a lot of stuff, you would forget where you hid it all.

We would get our stuff, carry it, and then be off to the next yard ... maximum efficiency in the midst of chaos.

It is a shame that they stopped doing this promotion ... it was a blast.

I dont know if its really a "hidden" treasure, but I snagged a set of gt40 (non-P) heads and lower intake for $125. Not the greatest deal, but certainly less than anywhere else. Nice part was I think someone had already tried to get them since all the accessories were off, valve covers, etc, all gone. All I had to do was unbolt intake, unbolt exhaust, and unbolt heads. Found another one about 2 weeks later, but missed it by about 15 mins. Sumbitches had just cracked the hood when I walked by!
